The dark side of surge pricing and the mitigating role of information disclosure

        Bhattarai Ashok,Farhang Maryam,Adjei Mavis T.,Saavedra Torres Jose L.,Zaad Ash 한국마케팅과학회 2023 마케팅과학연구 Vol.33 No.4

This research paper investigates the impact of surge pricing, a dynamic pricing strategy that adjusts prices based on real-time demand and supply, on customers’ perception of price fairness. We aim to provide insights for both academic and managerial audiences. Our study focuses on how businesses using surge pricing can minimize negative effects on customer behavior by properly communicating price changes. We conducted two experiments to examine customers’ fairness perception of surge pricing policies. Our findings revealed that customers generally perceive surge pricing as less fair. However, we also discovered that aligning the amount of information shared with the price increase can effectively improve these fairness perceptions. Our research contributes to the literature on price communication by exploring factors that influence consumers’ understanding and acceptance of price changes. Additionally, our findings offer practical guidance for businesses on how to communicate pricing information in a way that customers perceive as fair, ultimately benefiting both companies and their customers.

Association of Nutrient Patterns with Metabolic Syndrome and Its Components in Iranian Adults

We aimed to examine the association between nutrient patterns and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Iranian adults. In a cross-sectional study of 850 self-certified healthy women and men aged 20-59 years old, dietary data were assessed using three 24-hour recall. Anthropometric measures were done and blood samples were collected to measure serum fasting serum glucose and lipid profile. The MetS was defined using the International Diabetes Federation. Major nutrient patterns were identified using principle competent analysis. In the first nutrient pattern, the individuals in the fifth quintile had a higher intake of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, zinc, iron, saturated fatty acids (SFAs), and protein. In the second nutrient pattern, individuals in the first quintile had lower consumption of zinc, SFAs, vitamin E, α-tocopherol, oleic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids, β-carotene, linolenic acid, and monounsaturated fatty acids, compared to the fifth quintile. Furthermore, in the third nutrient pattern, the individuals in the fifth quintile had a higher intake of potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, protein, carbohydrate, vitamin C, and folate compared to other quintiles. We identified the second pattern had an indirect association with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, fasting blood sugar (p < 0.001 for all), and total cholesterol (p = 0.04) when it was controlled for body weight. Our findings showed that nutrient patterns may have an association with MetS components with mediating body weight.

The Relationship between Anger Expression and Its Indices and Oral Lichen Planus

        Masoumeh Mehdipour,Ali Taghavi Zenouz,Alireza Farnam,Rana Attaran,Sara Farhang,Maryam Safarnavadeh,Narges Gholizadeh,Saranaz Azari-Marhabi 전남대학교 의과학연구소 2016 전남의대학술지 Vol.52 No.2

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common inflammatory disease with unknown etiology. Depression, stress and anxiety are psychological factors that their influence on the expressionof lichen planus by affecting the immune system’s function has been confirmed. There is a probable relationship between anger and OLP expression. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the association of “anger” and OLP. In this descriptivestudy 95 subjects were included in 3 groups. A: patients with oral lichen planus,B: positive control, C: negative control. Anger and its indices were assessed by theState-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (STAXI-2) questionnaire, and pain wasmeasured via the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The collected data were analyzed statisticallyusing SPSS 18 software. The lichen planus and positive control groups borehigher total anger index (AX index) values compared with the negative control. Comparing anger expression-in (AXI) among the lichen planus and negative controlgroups revealed higher grades in lichen planus group. Evaluating the pain severity index(VAS) data and anger indices in lichen planus group, Spearman’s Rank CorrelationTest revealed a significant correlation between TAngR (reactional anger traits) andpain severity. The findings of this study indicated that there was a significant correlationbetween anger control and suppression of lichen planus development. On the otherhand, the patients with more severe pain mostly expressed their anger physically. Based on the findings, we can make the claim that anger suppression and its control-in(gathering tension) may play a role in the development of lichen planus as a knownpsychosomatic disorders.
