To return LNG to a gaseous state, it is fed into a regasification plant. For inland area, where pipelines do not exist or difficult to construct, the LNG is delivered to the inland-receiving terminal available at that area, regasified and delivered to consumers. At inland-receiving terminal, air-heating vaporizer type is usually used. To contribute in developing an efficient air-heating vaporizer, experiment on finned type air-heating vaporizer using 8 fins, 50 ㎜ fin length (8fin50le) and 4 fins, 75 ㎜ fin length (4fin75le) were conducted. The experiments were conducted by varying the ambient condition and the length of the vaporizer. The ambient air was controlled so that it has the same condition with air condition in every season available. LN₂ is used to substitute LNG because of safety reason. The results show that characteristics of the finned type 4fin75le vaporizer are comparable to finned type 8fin50le vaporizer at all season.
A CFD Analysis of Cryogenic Fluid Flowing Inside a Longitudinally-Finned Vertical-Pipe

The design of optimum air-heating vaporizer is needed to compensate for the low heat capacity of air as its heat source. In this study, numerical analysis of air heating vaporizer is conducted. A longitudinally-finned vertical-pipe was used as CFD model to represent the air-heating vaporizer. Cryogenic nitrogen was used as the working fluid and the ambient air was assumed to contain no water vapor. The convective heat transfer coefficient inside the pipe (hi) which is derived from CFD analysis has a good agreement with the convective heat transfer coefficient derived from Perkins' Nusselt correlation. Then, the convective heat transfer coefficient outside the pipe (ho) was calculated and then it was continued to find the relation between the Rayleigh (Ra) number and Nusselt number outside the pipe, Nuo. The results show that the Ra number and Nuo number have proportional trend in the range of Raleigh number of 1.3674×10¹³≤Ra≤2.8343≤10¹³ and then the Nusselt number correlation outside the pipe, Nuo, was proposed.
Characteristics of Air Heating Vaporizer at Different Season

Nowadays, the usage of air heating vaporizer increases to fulfill the need of natural gas (NG) in inland area. Especially, area that could not be reached by pipe lines. This fact leads us to develop LNG vaporizer which is suitable in such area. LNG will be delivered to the area using tank and then vaporized (regasified) there. Air heating vaporizer is one of vaporizer types which is being developed recently. To contribute in developing an efficient air-heating vaporizer, we did experiment on finless type air-heating vaporizer. The experiment was conducted by varying the ambient condition and the length of the vaporizer. The ambient air was managed so that it has the same condition with air condition in each season. In this experiment, the main aspect in analyzing the performance of air heating vaporizer is the inlet and outlet temperature compare to the length of the vaporizer at different season. LN₂ is used to substitute LNG because of safety reason. The result shows that performance of the vaporizer is related proportionally to the ambient temperature and the length of the vaporizer.

This paper was studied for optimum design of the used vaporizer at a satellite station. Generally, the frozen air is created by temperature drop on the vaporizer surface. In addition, the frost creates ice deposit layer, therefore, heat transfer on vaporizer decreases into the adiabatic condition. By this reason, recent vaporizer system is installed as parallel type, and it takes tree times of vaporizer capacity. But this vaporizer system requires much installation costs and restricted by some space. It is very important to solve this problem. This study paper is regarding air vaporizer where the utilization increases recently. There are three variable conditions which are used in this study research. To contribute in developing an efficient air-heating vaporizer, we did experiment on finless and 4fin801e and 8fin551e type air-heating vaporizer. The experiment was conducted by varying the ambient condition and the length of the vaporizer. The ambient air was managed so that it has the same condition with air condition in each season. In this experiment, the main aspect in analyzing the performance of air heating vaporizer is the inlet and outlet temperature compare to the length of the vaporizer at different season.
