The shortage of available fresh water is one of the global issues that humanity is currently facing. To find a solution to this problem, this work demonstrates a planar microfluidic photocatalytic reactor for water purification using solar energy. In order to investigate the feasibility of photocatalytic water treatment, the photodegradation of organic material is examined under UV-light irradiation. The nanostructures of photocatalyst maximize the light and mass transport efficiency, while micromixer enhances the reaction even further. This research would provide a solution to not only solving the water purification problem, but also in the fields where the photocatalyst is used.
