현재 연해주 발해유적들에서 발해 주민들의 활동과 정신적 및 물질적 삶을 보여주는 의미심장한 컬렉션들이 수집되었다. 이 글에서는 7~10세기에 연해주에 거주하였던 발해 주민들의 장식 및 예술품을 소개 및 분석하였다. 발해 주민들의 장식 및 예술품에는 종교와 숭배 조형품, 건축 장식 요소, 문양과 장신구 등이 있다. 필자는 이 유물들을 종교적 관점, 미학적 관점, 편년 및 문화적 관점, 그리고 사회적 관점에서 검토하였다. 이 연구의 주요 결론은 다음과 같다. 발해의 장식 예술품들은 불교와 민중적 예술품이라는 두 종류로 구분할 수 있다. 발해의 불교 예술품에는 고구려와 당의 예술 전통이 반영되었고, 수공업품에는 전통적 민중 예술 스타일의 전통이 더 많이 반영되었다. 연해주의 고고학 유적들에서 출토된 몇몇 장식품들은 발해의 수도유적들에서 유물들과 동일한데, 이는 그 유물들이 발해의 중심지역에서 연해주로 유입되었음을 의미할 것이다. 몇몇 장식품들(옥 장식, 띠꾸미개)은 신분과 위세를 나타내는 역할을 하였을 것이다. 띠꾸미개와 와당의 다양한 문양에서 편년 및 문화적 접촉 지수의 기능성을 찾을 수 있다. At present there are a meaningful archaeological collection are accumulated at Balhae sites in Primorye. These artifacts increase our knowledge about activities of Balhae people, about their material and spiritual life. This paper deals with description and analysis of arts and crafts of Balhae population resided in VII-X centuries in Primorye. It was investigated different kind of decorative items: the religious and cult sculpture, the architectural decorative elements, ornaments and adornments. We touched on such problems as religious view and aesthetic preference, the main direction of cultural relations, the chronological and social aspects. The preliminary results from this research are following. The decorative arts of Balhae people can be divided into two parts ? buddhistic and folk arts. At the Balhae buddhistic arts the Koguryo and Tang artistic traditions are reflected. The art and crafts demonstrate the traditional folk artistic style. Some decorative items wich were found at the archaeological sites of Primorye looks like articles from Balhae capital sites. It means that they could be brought in Primorye from Balhae central areas. Some decorative items can be used as status and prestige attributes (jade adornment, belt ornaments). And the belt ornaments and various design of roof-endtile disks can be investigated in order to discover their capabilities as chronological and cultural contacts indexes.
