      • Xth sense

        Marco Donnarumma(마르코 돈나룸마) 한국전자음악협회 2011 에밀레 Vol.9 No.1

The Xth sense (XS) is an interactive system for the biophysical generation and control of music. It makes use of muscle sounds produced by a performer as both raw sonic material and control data. Presently the XS technology consists of low-cost, wearable biosensors and a Pure Data based application for capture, analysis, real time processing and playback of human muscle sounds. After an introduction on the nature of the interaction fostered by the XS technology and the aesthetic motivations underpinning the project, I focus on the development and design of the XS wearable sensor device; this was implemented in the realization of Music for Flesh II, a musical performance for enhanced body. Next, the array of principles underpinning the application of muscle sounds to a musical performance is illustrated. Drawing from such principles, I eventually describe the methods by which useful features were extracted from the muscle sounds, and the mapping techniques used to deploy these features as control data for real time sound processing.

Numerical wave interaction with tetrapods breakwater

Dentale, Fabio,Donnarumma, Giovanna,Carratelli, Eugenio Pugliese The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2014 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.6 No.4

The paper provides some results of a new procedure to analyze the hydrodynamic aspects of the interactions between maritime emerged breakwaters and waves by integrating CAD and CFD. The structure is modeled in the numerical domain by overlapping individual three-dimensional elements (Tetrapods), very much like the real world or physical laboratory testing. Flow of the fluid within the interstices among concrete blocks is evaluated by integrating the RANS equations. The aim is to investigate the reliability of this approach as a design tool. Therefore, for the results' validation, the numerical run-up and reflection effects on virtual breakwater were compared with some empirical formulae and some similar laboratory tests. Here are presented the results of a first simple validation procedure. The validation shows that, at present, this innovative approach can be used in the breakwater design phase for comparison between several design solutions with a significant minor cost.

Two Cystic Cavernous Angiomas after Radiotherapy for Atypical Meningioma in Adult Woman : Case Report and Literature Review

Ruggeri, Andrea Gennaro,Donnarumma, Pasquale,Pichierri, Angelo,Delfini, Roberto The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2014 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.55 No.1

A correlation between radiation therapy and cavernoma has been suspected since 1994. Since then, only a few cases of radio-induced cavernomas have been reported in the literature (85 patients). Most of them were children, and the most frequent original tumour had been medulloblastoma. The authors report a case of two cystic cavernous angiomas after radiation therapy for atypical meningioma in adult woman. This is the first case of cavernous angioma after radiotherapy for low grade meningioma. A 39-year-old, Latin american woman was operated on for a frontal atypical meningioma with intradiploic component and adjuvant radiotherapy was delivered (6000 cGy local brain irradiation, fractionated over 6 weeks). Follow-up MR imaging showed no recurrences of the tumour and no other lesions. Ten years later, at the age of 49, she consulted for progressive drug-resistant headache. MR imaging revealed two new well defined areas of different signal intensity at the surface of each frontal pole. Both lesions were surgically removed; the histopathological diagnosis was cavernous angioma. This is the first case of cavernous angioma after radiation therapy for atypical meningioma : it confirms the development of these lesions after standard radiation therapy also in patients previously affected by non-malignant tumours.
