In diabetes, the abnormal increase of the membrane cholesterol/phospholipid ratio (C/PL) is consdered to be the main reason for the decreased membrane fluidity, which then results in impaired erythrocyte deformability and subsequent microcirculatory disturbances. In this study, we examined the effects of brazilin on lipid and phosphatidyl fatty acid composition of erythrocyte membranes in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Treatment of brazilin (10mg/kg or 100 mg/kg for 2 weeks, i.p) altered and cholesterol contents in diabetic erythrocyte membranes. The C/PL ratio of brazilin treated groups decreased compared with that of diabetic control group while no change was observed in normal erythrocytes. In streptozotocin induced diabetic rats, alterations in phosphatidyl fatty acid compositioin of erythrocyte membranes were observed and brazilin could reverse these alterations. Arachidonic acid level reumed to a normal level while linoleic acid level remained unchanged by the treatment of brazilin. The results suggest that brazilin might increase erythrocyte membrane fluidity which plays a key role inregulating erythrocyte deformability, thereby it could exert positive effects on microdiculatory disturbances.

In this paper, we present an automated approach to quantify information about three-dimensional (3D) morphology, hemoglobin content and density of mature red blood cells (RBCs) using off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM) and statistical algorithms. The digital hologram of RBCs is recorded by a CCD camera using an off-axis interferometry setup and quantitative phase images of RBCs are obtained by a numerical reconstruction algorithm. In order to remove unnecessary parts and obtain clear targets in the reconstructed phase image with many RBCs, the marker-controlled watershed segmentation algorithm is applied to the phase image. Each RBC in the segmented phase image is three-dimensionally investigated. Characteristic properties such as projected cell surface, average phase, sphericity coefficient, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and MCH surface density of each RBC is quantitatively measured. We experimentally demonstrate that joint statistical distributions of the characteristic parameters of RBCs can be obtained by our algorithm and efficiently used as a feature pattern to discriminate between RBC populations that differ in shape and hemoglobin content. Our study opens the possibility of automated RBC quantitative analysis suitable for the rapid classification of a large number of RBCs from an individual blood specimen, which is a fundamental step to develop a diagnostic approach based on DHM.

The purpose of this study is to prove that new values for the agricultural food area can be created by combining various big data collected in the agricultural food area and analyzing them in an appropriate analysis method. For this, the analysis techniques generally used were studied, and the use of the big data in the various areas of the current society was explored through practical application instances. In addition, by the current status and analysis instances of the big data use in the agricultural food area, this study was conducted to verify how the new values found were being used.

Through this study, I explored a creation of the postmodern furniture aesthetics through the transformation by student's interpretation in experiencing the art/craft/handmade/studio furniture aesthetics in postmodernism theoretically for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class' by the Korea Forest Service because the class tends to focus on making simple wood works involved just in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. Following the lesson one on defining the postmodern aesthetics in New Design furniture as metaphor and the lesson two on interpreting an aesthetics of art and everyday life with the wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical and symbolical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism in the previous papers, I developed lesson three on creating an object using eco-friendly materials like wood in transforming an aesthetics of postmodern furniture as the final stage of the study. Therefore, the students will be able to create a piece of eco-friendly wood furniture for our environment as metaphor transformed by his/her perspective regarding a piece of selected New Design furniture.
Similarity Relations of Resin Flow in Resin Transfer Molding Process
Um, Moon-Kwang,Byun, Joon-Hyung,Daniel, Isaac M. The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2009 Advanced composite materials Vol.18 No.2
Liquid molding processes, such as resin transfer molding, involve resin flow through a porous medium inside a mold cavity. Numerical analysis of resin flow and mold filling is a very useful means for optimization of the manufacturing process. However, the numerical analysis is quite time consuming and requires a great deal of effort, since a separate numerical calculation is needed for every set of material properties, part size and injection conditions. The efforts can be appreciably reduced if similarity solutions are used instead of repeated numerical calculations. In this study, the similarity relations for pressure, resin velocity and flow front propagation are proposed to correlate another desired case from the already obtained numerical result. In other words, the model gives a correlation of flow induced variables between two different cases. The model was verified by comparing results obtained by the similarity relation and by independent numerical simulation.
