        A magnetically separable and recyclable Ag-supported magnetic TiO<sub>2</sub> composite catalyst: Fabrication, characterization, and photocatalytic activity

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, a magnetically separable, highly active, and recyclable photocatalyst was synthesized by physico-chemical incorporation of Ag, TiO<SUB>2</SUB>, and Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> into one structure. The physical and chemical properties of the catalysts were evaluated by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, field emission transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The Ag-supported magnetic TiO<SUB>2</SUB> composite demonstrated desirable properties and features such as a narrow band gap of 1.163 eV, modifiable structure, and high degradation efficiency. The activity and durability of the synthesized photocatalyst in the degradation of methyl orange (MO) in aqueous solutions under visible light irradiation and different experimental conditions were evaluated and compared to those of commercial TiO<SUB>2</SUB> and Ag/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> composites. It was found that the synthesized composite showed a much higher MO photodegradation efficiency than the other composites under visible light irradiation. Moreover, it exhibited a high photocatalytic activity and was recoverable and durable; its photocatalytic efficiency in MO removal was consistently higher than 93.1% after five reuses without any evident signs of deactivation. Thus, the developed photocatalyst is a very promising material for practical applications in environmental pollution remediation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Magnetically separable Ag/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> heterostructures were synthesized. </LI> <LI> The samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDS. </LI> <LI> Magnetic Ag/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> catalyst had a lower band gap energy than TiO<SUB>2</SUB> and Ag/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>. </LI> <LI> The prepared catalyst showed good photocatalytic activity and high recyclability. </LI> <LI> Methyl orange was photocatalytically degraded using the synthesized catalyst. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Export Quality and Economic Vulnerability: Insights from 88 Developing Countries

        Previous literature shows that trade liberalization causes economic vulnerability due to external shocks. This study endeavours to highlight potential cures based on export quality. The two-step system generalized methods of moment estimate is applied to deal with endogeneity. The area and year fixed effects are also controlled for a sample of 88 developing economies comprising two subsamples due to the availability of export quality index. The empirical results are consistent and unbiased, thus verifying the decreasing effect of export quality on economic vulnerability. This implies that improvements in export quality can help developing countries absorb the risk from trade liberalization. The results are found to be consistent in investigating 48 low- and lower-middle-income economies, but there is no statistical significance evidence for 40 upper-middle and high-income economies). This suggests that trade liberalization without upgrading export product quality reflects a vulnerable aspect of economic integration for low- and lower-income economies.

        Fiscal Decentralisation and Spatial Externalities in Vietnam Provincial Economic Growth

        This paper aims to investigate the impacts of fiscal decentralisation on the provincial economic development in 62 Vietnamese provinces from 2011-2018. We estimate a Spatial Durbin Model (SDM) based on a growth model with spatial externalities. The focus of the paper is on the spatial spillover effects of fiscal decentralisation on the provincial income levels. The results confirm the existence of spatial interdependency among Vietnamese provinces. The findings indicate that fiscal decentralisation and physical capital not only affects the income level within one province, but also contribute positively to the outputs of nearby provinces. The study does not find significant effects of human capital on provincial income. We also show that these effects vary across five main economic regions of Vietnam. There is also evidence that the total effects are stronger in high institutional quality levels, which points out to the “sand the wheels” effect. Policy implications are also discussed.
