• The Effect of Mobility Convenience and Virtual Communities on the Continued Use of Online Education Systems

        Michelle Rodriguez-Serra,Christian Fernando Libaque-Saenz 한국경영정보학회 2021 한국경영정보학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2021 No.11

The fast diffusion of Internet has changed the way in which individuals interact in various contexts. The education sector is also part of this transformation. Universities, for example, have been gradually investing in technologies before the COVID-19, but it was this pandemic the event that boosted the worldwide adoption of these platforms. Recent reports show that mobility stands as one of the main benefits of remote classes, while the lack of functionalities related to community interaction may stand as an important roadblock for their adoption. Considering that e-learning platforms will be critical for higher education in this new context, even after the pandemic, it is important to understand the factors that lead to a continued use of these systems. The present research focuses on the effect of mobility convenience and features related to virtual communities. Results are expected to provide theoretical and practical implications.

The Role of Technology-Transfer-Oriented Subsidies in Building Companies’ Absorptive Capacity and Innovation: Evidence from Peruvian MSMEs

Maria Fernanda Ricalde-Chahua,Christian Fernando Libaque-Saenz 한국경영정보학회 2023 Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems Vol.33 No.2

Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) have been acknowledged to play a key role in promoting innovation and economic development. In Peru, 99.5% of formal firms are MSMEs, thus promoting innovation in these firms could have a significant impact on the Peruvian economy. In spite of Innovate Peru’s efforts, Peru is still one of the countries that invests the least in innovation, with MSMEs offering low value added. Innovate Peru has launched programs (technological missions) to improve MSMEs’ innovation through technology- transfer-oriented subsidies, which may strengthen companies’ absorptive capacity (AC) and thus their capabilities to identify and integrate internal and external knowledge. This study assesses the impact of these programs on MSMEs. Data were collected from 85 MSMEs that participated in Innovate Peru’s technological missions between 2014 and 2016. Findings show that all the dimensions of AC have a positive impact on innovation; however, the impact of economic subsidy was found to be non-significant. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

A Multidimensional View of SNS Usage: Conceptualization and Validation

Edgardo R. Bravo,Christian Fernando Libaque-Saenz 한국경영정보학회 2022 Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems Vol.32 No.3

Social networking sites (SNSs) have become an essential part of people’s lives. It is thus crucial to understand how individuals use these platforms. Previous literature has divided usage into numerous activities and then grouped them into dimensions to avoid excessive granularity. However, these categories have not been derived from a uniform theoretical background; consequently, these dimensions are dispersed, overlapping, and disconnected from each other. This study argues that “SNS usage” is a complex phenomenon consisting of multiple activities that can be grouped into dimensions under the umbrella of communication theories and these dimensions are related to each other in a particular multi-dimensional architecture. “SNS usage” is conceptualized as a third-order construct formed by “producing,” “consuming,” and “communicating.” “Producing,” in turn, is proposed as a second-order construct manifested by “commenting,” “general information sharing,” and “self-disclosure.” The proposed model was assessed with data collected from 414 USA adult users and PLS-SEM technique. The results show empirical support for the theorized model. SNS providers now have this architecture that clarifies the role of each dimension of use, which will allow them to design effective strategies to encourage the use of these networks.

The role of privacy policy on consumers’ perceived privacy

Chang, Younghoon,Wong, Siew Fan,Libaque-Saenz, Christian Fernando,Lee, Hwansoo JAI Press 2018 Government information quarterly Vol.35 No.3

Abstract

With today's big data and analytics capability, access to consumer data provides competitive advantage. Analysis of consumers' transactional data helps organizations to understand customer behaviors and preferences. However, prior to capitalizing on the data, organizations ought to have effective plans for addressing consumers' privacy concerns because violation of consumer privacy brings long-term reputational damage. This paper proposes and tests a Privacy Boundary Management Model, explaining how consumers formulate and manage their privacy boundary. It also analyzes the effect of the five dimensions of privacy policy (Fair Information Practices) on privacy boundary formation to assess how customers link these dimensions to the effectiveness of privacy policy. Survey data was collected from 363 customers who have used online banking websites for a minimum of six months. Partial Least Square results showed that the validated research model accounts for high variance in perceived privacy. Four elements of the Fair Information Practice Principles (access, notice, security, and enforcement) have significant impact on perceived effectiveness of privacy policy. Perceived effectiveness in turn significantly influences perceived privacy control and perceived privacy risk. Perceived privacy control significantly influences trust and perceived privacy. Perceived privacy concern and trust also significantly influence perceived privacy.

Highlights

We test a Privacy Boundary Management Model and perceived effectiveness of FIPPs.

Access, notice, security, and enforcement affect the effectiveness of privacy policy.

Perceived effectiveness significantly influences privacy control and privacy risk.

Privacy control, privacy concern, and trust significantly influence perceived privacy.

The results have important implications for policy makers and financial institutes.
