The purpose of this paper is to investigate the pressure distribution around a circular cylinder which moves perpendicularly to a uniform shear flow. The assumption made here is that a flow is an incompressible and inviscid one. As a result of theoretical calculations the influence of a shear flow on a pressure distribution of a stationary cylinder appears more on the side of the cylindrical surface facing to higher velocity than to lower velocity of a shear flow. The variations of a total pressure coefficient, an indication angle of stagnation point and an indication angle of a static pressure become greater as the vorticity of a shear flow becomes large and also the velocity of a cylinder becomes rapid. Finally the fact that the influence of a shear flow on a pressure distribution is amplified by viscous effects was recognized by an experimental result at a low Reynolds number smaller than critical Reynolds number.

In this study, the flow in the centrifugal pumps is analyzed by the vortex panel method. The flow is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible. To stabilize the fluctation of the computations, linearly varying vortex is used on each panel. Distributions of vorticity, velocity and pressure on the impeller with and without casing are calculated. The results are in good agreement with that of Kamimoto.

A Numerical Calculation has been performed for the analysis of three-dimensional flow fields in the rotating cascade. This analysis is one of the most important part of the aerodynamic design of rotating blades in axial-flow compressors. Three-dimensional flow fields can be obtained by the quasi-three-dimensional iterative calculations of flows both on blade-to-blade stream surfaces and hub-to-shround stream surfaces, the former is solved by the method of boundary streamline correction, the latter with the consideration of viscous flow losses. Conclusions are obtained as follows: (1) The method of boundary streamline correction has been proved to be accurate one for the calculation of the high subsonic compressible blade-to-blade flows. (2) For the prediction of performance at off-design points, the results of calculation of hub-to-shroud are effective if the calculation is performed with the proper consideration of losses due to viscous flows.
외압을 받는 공기윤활 저어널베어링의 부하용량에 관한 이론적 연구

A theoretical investigation is carried out for the load capacity of the externally pressurized air lubricated journal bearings. Theoretical analysis is made using the incremental method and the finite element method, and the discharge coefficient is considered. The present numerical results for the bearings having one row and two rows of supply holes with pocket are obtained and compared with any other numerical and experimental results. From this study, the following results are obtained. 1. The present numerical results for the bearings having one row and two rows of supply holes with pocket are in better agreement with the avalable experimental results than any other earlier numerical results. 2. The discharge coefficient used in the bearing with two rows of supply holes with pocket in static state can be effectively applied to the bearing with one row and two rows of supply holes in rotating state respectively. 3. The inconsistency appeared in Pink and Stout that the load capacity decreases at high eccentricity ratio in the theoretical results for the bearings at static state, is corrected in present study.

The measuring system controlled by microcomputer was constructed in order to measure the three dimensional flow field behind an axial flow compressor rotor. Detailed measurements were made of the flow field behind an axial flow rotating blade row using this system and a 45°single slanted hot wire. The interaction of the wake with the annulus wall boundary layer, the secondary flow and the tip leakage flow results in slower decay and larger width of the wake. By the mixing of the wake with the strong secondary flow at the corner between the hub wall and the suction side, the wake near the hub wall has the largest width and the largest axial velocity defect. The reduction of the mass flow rate entails separation, stall and larger tangential velocity. In particular, as leakage flow become strong, it absorbs the wake and affects the flow at the full passage near the casing wall.

An experimental investigation is carried out for the load capacity characteristics and the pressure distributions of the five externally pressurized air lubricated journal bearings which are produced according to the rows of supply holes and the presence of pocket and step. The experiments are performed under the supply pressures 2, 3.5 and 5kgf/㎠ gauge. The results show that the bearing with two rows of supply holes has larger load capacity than that with one row, the bearing with pocketed supply holes has larger load capacity than that with plain ones and the doubly stepped journal bearing has larger load capacity than the plain journal bearing.

This paper had been investigated on the limitation of the application of a standard k-ε model and a low Reynolds number(LRN) k-ε model in the prediction of the flow through conical diffusers with adverse pressure gradient. Computations were performed using a numerical method with SIMPLE algorithm for conical diffusers with various area ratio and various diverging angles. The calculation results show that the standard k-ε model and LRN model predict a similar diffuser performance. The comparison with experimental results measured by Gibson suggests that the limitation of available diffuser performance prediction by k-ε model can be found.

The performance of centrifugal separator is considered to be one of very important problems in powder industry. In this paper the performance improvement of the centrifugal separator is investigated. At first, the principle of centrifugal separator is discussed, then a conventional separator is improved based on separating principles. Secondly, the performance experiments of both the improved separator and the conventional one were performed with talc and calcium bicarbonate. As the result the improved separator showed the greater separation ability by 3-9 percents than that of the conventional one.

The two-element airfoils of arbitrary shape are approximately mapped to the two circles by applying the von Karman-Trefftz function and Halsey's method. The flow about two-element airfoils is calculated from the flow about circles in the mapped plane. The effect of flap is investigated by comparing with the equivalent single airfoil. The increase of deflection angle of flap results in the increase of attack angle to the main airfoil. In the small attack angle the lift coefficient of the main airfoil is able to be approximated to the summation of the lift coefficients of the main airfoil when it is single and the increase of lift coefficient when it is in two element with zero attack angle.
