An Analysis of Gender-Related Studies in a Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport

The purpose of the study was to examine gender related studies from 1995 to 2012 in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES), focusing primarily on the extent to which scholars researched gender to provide educators with information to implement school curricular activities, develop and use appropriate pedagogy, and to inform educators of issues and solutions related to gender issues. The following research questions that guided this study: (1) How many research articles were published related to gender from 1995 to 2012 in RQES? (2) What gender categorizations were used, and what types of research participants were used? (3) What areas of gender were studied in the journal? (4) Generally, what methods were used in the research studies, and what specific methods were employed in data collection? (5) What curricular sports activities were researched? The significance of this study lies in its summary and analysis of trends in recent research studies that focused on gender and physical activity participation in physical education and sports environments, including methodology, participant selection, and sport variation.
