      • The Effect of Plan Shape and Diagrid Angle on Structural Efficiency of Tall Buildings

Amirreza Ardekani,Matin Alaghmandan Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2023 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.12 No.2

Achieving sustainable spaces is one of the emerging trends of tall buildings regarding their significant impacts on the cities. Reducing energy consumption and material using is investigated as a widely used approach to achieve more efficient tall buildings. Defining more efficient geometries and form modifications have been adopted for this goal. In this paper the effect of plan shape and diagrid angle on structural efficiency of diagrid tall buildings have been studied. A parametric workbench is applied to generate and analyze models. The goal is to find effective form parameters resulting in more efficient forms. Respectively, all models were generated in Rhino/grasshopper architecturally and analyzed by a finite element plug-in structurally. Based on the results, steeper angles almost cause more displacements and needs to be more stiffened. it can be seen almost more sided models need less weight for the structures and it could lead to more efficient forms.

Memorial functional foods: a new concept from Bavi tribe

Ehsan Amiri Ardekani,Hossein Askari,Abdolali Mohagheghzadeh 한국식품연구원 2020 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.7 No.-

The use of functional foods (FFs) for maintaining health and preventing or treating illnesses—in recent years—has been dramatically increased in the literature. There are available valuable examples of FFs in ethno medicine from different tribes. Ethnic FFs can be valuable resources for developing FFs science, e.g., introducing memorial FFs as an interdisciplinary ethnopharmacological concept. In this paper, ethnic FFs from Bavi tribe (Kohgiluyeh va Boyerahmad province of Iran) have been studied, and their medical potentials are reported. Data gathering was done by interview with Bavi tribe local healers using a questionnaire. Plant materials were collected and identified, and Bavi FFs were prepared according to local procedures. Information of 21 Bavi tribe FFs was collected which are including 20 different plant species. The results showed that most FFs are used to treat chronic diseases including kidney problems like kidney stones, liver disease, neurological complaints, and GI ulcers and are used as lactogogue, while lesser FFs are used to treat acute diseases and symptoms (43%), including nausea and vomiting, common cold, diarrhea, sore throat, and allergy. Most FFs of Bavi tribe are prepared using aromatic plants (75%) responsible for aroma in the final FF. Probably, aromatic FFs increase patient acceptance, without mimicking unpleasant memory of drug recommendation. Plants that are used in FF are mostly perennial (80%) and wild growing (80%), indicating continuous contact of natives and so having memory with such habitant herbals. Treating diseases by homemade FFs which are prepared by well-known aromatic herbals is a routine procedure among natives like the Bavi tribe. Such easily made FFs with well-known taste and flavors which may change the patient’s mood should be studied in a new approach, “memorial FFs”, as a novel opportunity for healthcare and curing.

      • Antioxidant and Apoptotic Effects of an Aqueous Extract of Urtica dioica on the MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cell Line

Fattahi, Sadegh,Ardekani, Ali Motevalizadeh,Zabihi, Ebrahim,Abedian, Zeinab,Mostafazadeh, Amrollah,Pourbagher, Roghayeh,Akhavan-Niaki, Haleh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer and one of the leading causes of death among women in the world. Plants and herbs may play an important role in complementary or alternative treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-proliferative potential of Urtica dioica. The anti oxidant activity of an aqueous extract of Urtica dioica leaf was measured by MTT assay and the FRAP method while its anti-proliferative activity on the human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) and fibroblasts isolated from foreskin tissue was evaluated using MTT assay. Mechanisms leading to apoptosis were also investigated at the molecular level by measuring the amount of anti and pro-apoptotic proteins and at the cellular level by studying DNA fragmentation and annexin V staining by flow cytometry. The aqueous extract of Urtica dioica showed antioxidant effects with a correlation coefficient of $r^2$=0.997. Dose-dependent and anti-proliferative effects of the extract were observed only on MCF-7 cells after 72 hrs with an $IC_{50}$ value of 2 mg/ml. This anti proliferative activity was associated with an increase of apoptosis as demonstrated by DNA fragmentation, the appearance of apoptotic cells in flow cytometry analysis and an increase of the amount of calpain 1, calpastatin, caspase 3, caspase 9, Bax and Bcl-2, all proteins involved in the apoptotic pathway. This is the first time such in vitro antiproliferative effect of aqueous extract of Urtica dioica leaf has been described for a breast cancer cell line. Our findings warrant further research on Urtica dioica as a potential chemotherapeutic agent for breast cancer.

      • Serum Levels of G-CSF and IL-7 in Iranian Breast Cancer Patients

Bordbar, Elahe,Malekzadeh, Mahyar,Ardekani, Mehdi Taghipour Fard,Doroudchi, Mehrnoosh,Ghaderi, Abbas Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Introduction: Breast cancer cells and tumor stroma produce different cytokines and soluble factors. Cytokines, while playing crucial roles in immune responses to tumors, also favour tumor growth and progression. IL-7 and G-CSF are two cytokines that may exert influences on the pathophysiology of breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Sera were collected from 136 females with breast cancer before receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The control group comprised of 60 healthy age-matched females without any acute or chronic diseases with no family history of breast cancer. Serum levels of IL-7 and G-CSF were measured by commercial enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: While there was no significant difference in the level of G-CSF between patients ($92.81{\pm}594.54$ pg/ml) and controls (0.00 pg/ml), G-CSF level in sera of patients with advanced stages of breast cancer was elevated compared to early stages (p=0.0001). Moreover, the highest level of G-CSF was seen in patients with N3 phase tumors (p=0.0001). IL-7 was slightly but not significantly higher in the control group ($0.04{\pm}0.11$ pg/ml) in comparison with patients ($0.02{\pm}0.10$ pg/ml). Interestingly, a significant increase in the level of IL-7 in patients with skin involvement was observed (p=0.001). Conclusion: Our results showed an elevation of G-CSF in sera of patients with advanced stages of tumor, while IL-7 elevation correlated with skin involvement of breast cancer. IL-7 can be produced by keratinocytes in skin tissue and may be involved in the pathologic establishment of metastatic tumor cells in skin.

Synthesis of new phosphate derivative of benzothiazole and its inhibiting effect on two series of human neuroblastoma cell growth

        Mahshid Nikpour Nezhati,Gholam Hossein Riazi,Homayon Ahmad Panahi,Elham Moniri,Nasir Ahmad Rajabi,Mohammad Mehdi Sadughi,Natasha Rahmani Zaker,Robab Ardekani,Reihaneh Kooshkestani 한국화학공학회 2013 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.30 No.3

The sodium salt of di ((1-hydroxy-2-benzothiazolium-1-yl) ethyliden-1,1-H-bisphosphonic acid) orthophosphate was synthesized and its toxicity and viability effects screened on two different human neuroblastoma cell lines. This novel derivative of benzothiazole provides a new compound in connection with research and therapeutic application for tumor cell growth inhibition. Benzothiazole was alkylated in reaction with bromoacetic acid and then converted to its H-bisphosphonic acid derivative in presence of H3PO3/POCl3. The procedure led to formation of two molecules of corresponding H-bisphosphonic acid which attached together via a phosphate bridge. The investigated compound exhibits activities (IC50 value) ranging from 14-23 μM (corresponding to human neuroblastoma SK-BE (2)and SK-NM-C cells).
