In this thesis, we design a group key management system which is composed with the extended two-stages and is scalability of multicast group. And we propose protocols and evaluate the performance. The proposed system of which a multicast group is divided into many subgroups and it is consisted of two-stages each of which is managed by TKD(Top-level Key Distributor and SKD(Subgroup Key Distributor). TKD and all the SKD belong to KD(Key Distributor) group. The encryption key of KD group is used to cipher and decipher multicast messages. TKD generates KD group key and transmits the key to SKD’s safely. Hosts to join at a multicast group belong to one of an each subgroup. Hosts to belong to SKD and each subgroup share the encryption key named by subgroup key, it is generated by SKD and isn’t disclosed outside of it’s subgroup. As a results, loads of key management can be distributed into many KD. So, we guarantee a scalability of multicast group and decrease overheads of key translation which should be occurred at each stage of transmitting the multicast traffic. In case of joining and leaving members in a multicast group are occurred frequently, it is enough that a group key is distributed only in a specific subgroup. It can decrease overheads which are still remained in conventional method of key redistributing.
