Monorail is a type of LRT that a train, made with 2~4 cars runs on single track. Monorail can be divided into two types - straddled type, running on track beam and suspended type, running suspended from track beam. After Wuppertal, world"s first monorail in German, many monorails are currently operated in Australia, U.S.A, Japan etc. In macountry, it was decided to introduce monorail to 3rd line of Daegue. Daegue"s 3rd line is public financial project and supported about 60% of total project cost by central government. The central government announced a standard for rubber-wheel type LRT and steel-wheel type LRT. It becomes a guide to local government willing to introduce this type of LRT. The standard for monorail hasn"t announced yet although the necessity of research has grown. Korea Railroad Research Institute which has been asked to research by Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs has carried out research on standard of monorail considering domestic condition. The on-going research is described in this paper. We wish that it becomes national standard and a good guide for local government.

LRT is eco-friendly transportation system and can be constructed at less than half cost of subway. Therefore many local governments have planned to construct a various type of LRT and some of them were already under construction. In Para. 2 of Art. 22 of the "Enforcement Decree of Urban Railroad Act" - safety standard of urban railroad vehicle, It can"t be operated if "structures and devices" don"t come up to standard required to safety operation. Constructor or operator should give an order or operate according to safety standard in Art. 3 of the Safety Standard of Urban Railroad Vehicle. Safety Standard of Urban Railroad Vehicle of 2000 was reformed once to tighten fire safety standard in 2004 after subway accident in Daegue. It was entirely made for medium and large-sized electric motor car. LRT, based on driverless operation and articulated bogie, has different safety standard in signalling devices and the axle load. etc. So many institutes related LRT have required to amend. In this paper, we described features of LRT vehicle and necessity of amendment and discussed how it should be amended.

Bogie is the connection device between carbody and wheel in railway vehicles. It is the core part that exert a important effect on the passenger safety and running safety. Bogie largely consists of bogie frame, suspension, brake, wheel set. Static and Dynamic load have acted on it complexly. When the bogie is designed, finite element method, static load test, fatigue test, running test should be considered. Some bogie frame of high speed railway freight car have the problem. It"s end beam was cracked. The crack of the end beam have a bad effect on brake system. In that case, the cars would be in danger of derailment.

The “standard regulation” of the vehicles from “urban transit law” are being adopted to electric multiple unit in domestic. In the standard regulation, there are two types for EMU. One is heavy EMU for Seoul. The other is large EMU for Pusan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Incheon. Korea Railroad Research Institute, with the assistance of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, “advanced EMU development project” are progressed, and 6th year started at September, one unit to six cars is completed. Now “urban transit vehicle performance tests are on the current progress. The main characteristics of AUTS(Advanced Urban Transit System) are as follows. One inverter control one motor, DDM(Dircet Drive Motor), no driving gear, plug door and steps, mounting and maintenance costs down, passenger convenience improvement. This paper describes the key features the next generation EMU, and performance test results, and the commercial success method of national R&D business.
국가 R&D 성과품 상용화 추진을 위한 제도개선방안 연구 : 경량전철을 중심으로

Traffic congestions in local cities have been getting worse since 1990s, so many local governments have considered the introduction of an LRT system. So far, there is no city operating the LRT due to social environments, financial reasons, feasibility and so on. But still many cities have examined LRT or started the construction. Until now, more than 30 cities are constructing LRT or planning the introduction of LRT and it becomes 96 routes, approximately 700km. With the support of MLTM, KRRI has developed automatic LRT system with rubber-wheels, K-AGT as a result of "LRT system technology development project" from 1999 to 2005 by investing 50.32 billion wons(the public 37, the private 13.32) and finished running durability test of 100,000km at Kyeong-san test line. Currently, two trains, coupled two cars respectively have running and signaling tested. K-AGT was appointed to supply for an extension line at Busan Subway Line 3(Minam-Anpyeong section) with 17 trains(six-unit car) 102 cars. However, except for Minam-Anpyeong section, other cities such as Uijeongbu, Yongin, Daegu(Line 3) and Kwangmyeong decided to use the foreign systems, not to use the product, a result of national R&D project. This results in a huge waste of foreign currency and it is expected to require much additional cost for maintenance. If local governments use the products of national R&D projects, many national benefits such as reducing imports and protecting home industries could be expected, therefore in this paper, some plans to encourage to use products of national R&D projects were dealt with.

The AUTS(Advanced Urban Transit System) are developed by government R&D business. This units are under main line performance test in Daebul test line. Both AC and DC could apply to the AUTS for pantagraph voltage. So main transformer and some high voltage filters are added to the under-frame. As a result the total weight of each car(Mc1-Tp1-M-T-Tp2-Mc2) is different. And axle load is different each other. The main characteristics of AUTS(Advanced Urban Transit System) are as follows. One inverter control one motor DDM(Dircet Drive Motor) no driving gear plug no end door self-steering bogie etc. These matters could be appeared to strange vibration. So vibration test is important. The vibration test performed to Mc1 and Tp1. The results were checked to the up-down direction and left-right direction for acceleration.
벌크시멘트화차의 대차 하중시험과 진동성능시험 및 동특성 해석 연구

The object of this study is to ensure the stability of bulk cement cars conducting vibration performance test, dynamic characteristic analysis and static load test of bogie frame. In case of static load test, bogie static load test facility was used. In case of dynamic characteristic analysis, Vampire Software was used. In case of vibration performance test, real bulk cement cars were used in kyeung-bu line. In the results of static load test of bogie frame for bulk cement car, all structures satisfied allowable stress criteria of materials. The vibration performance test and dynamic characteristic analysis results satisfied allowable standards.

Light rail vehicle is optimized vehicle system for complex urban circumstance. LRT systems have many merits such as improve accuracy, speediness and safety. There are many LRT systems such as monorail, tram, automated guideway transit, linear induction motor propulsion and so on. These systems have operated in Japan and other advanced countries. In Korea, local government has many projects to apply the advanced LRT system. But there are no standardized specification, performance test specification, construction specification for monorail system, linear induction motor propulsion system, tram in Korea up to now. So, we need to establish of standardized to economical construction and safety. The linear induction motor system has been usually applied in Japan subway and ART(Advanced Rapid Transit) of Canada. In Korea, the linear induction motor system has been adopted for Yongin LRT and currently under construction. This paper covers the contents and technical base for main items of rolling stock, performance standard, carbody structure, bogie, electronic unit and brake equipment in order to implement linear induction motor LRT system according to local conditions.
비틀림 흡수구조형 제륜자 홀더행거의 적용방안에 관한 연구

Among welded structure bogies in use for high speed freight car, a part of bogies manufactured in 1999 and 2000 have found problems that crack occurs in its end beam. In case of a freight car the difference of weight between empty and loading conditions are worse than in case of a passenger car. Moreover its brake system is tread brake without second suspension system. Cracks of end beam is supposed to be due to loading by brake system rather than vertical loading by freight. These cracks can make brake system useless and may be a cause of derailment in the worst case. In this study, we have proposed a simple torsion-free brake shoe holder hanger to remove torsion of hanger bracket which was supposed to be one of causes of cracks and performed finite element analyses. Also static load test was applied in torsion free brake shoe holder.

"Urban Railway Vehicle" is defined by Urban Railway Act as Railway and Monorail, and so on constructed in urban area. but the differences between heavy electric motor car which operate in and near Seoul and is usually thought as urban railway vehicle and light rail vehicle which is going to be opened soon are ignored in this act. In the case of IAT in Incheon international airport and monorail constructing in Weolmi-do, Urban Railway Act is not applying to them, even though they are LRT, just because they are not constructed within traffic area in city. Most of all, Urban Railway Act should define vehicle precisely and be amended on the standard measurement, safety standard, performance test standard, construction regulation and operation regulation to test safety and performance of automatic LRT projects in the country.
