Mechanical component has striation with constant width and SEM can estimate fracture type and loading condition. SEM has benefit to fatigue fracture analysis but striation can be observed according to the kind of material and range of crack growth rate and can't. In this case, it needs AFM that can measure 3-dimensional surface profile with resolution of atomic size. In this study. to find fracture reason of torsion-mounted blade in nuclear plant, we estimate the relation between stress intensity factor range and root mean square roughness in 12% Cr steel by AFM and predict in-service loading condition of turbine blade. failure analysis is performed by finite element method and Goodman diagram on torsion-mounted blade.

Highly controllable ruthenium catalysts were developed using readily available and versatile N-vinylsulfonamides as carbene precursors. Trifluoromethanesulfonamide-based catalysts initiated ultrarapidly even at temperatures as low as -60 °C and continuously propagated rapidly, enabling the enthalpically and entropically less-favored ring-opening metathesis polymerizations of low-strained functionalized cyclopentene derivatives, some of which are not accessible with previous olefin metathesis catalysts. To our surprise, the developed catalysts facilitated the polymerization of cyclopentadiene (CPD), a feedstock that is easily and commonly obtainable through the steam cracking of naphtha, which has, to the best of our knowledge, not been previously achieved due to its low ring strain and facile dimerization even at low temperatures (below 0 °C).

The vertical roller mill is the important machine grinding and mixing various crude materials in the manufacturing process of portland cement. Table liner is one of grinding elements of vertical roller mill and is subjected to the cyclic bending stress by rollers load and the centrifugal force by rotation of table. It demands 2×10^8 cycle but has 4×10^6~8×10^6 cycle. It fractures at the edge of grinding path of outside roller. The repair expense for it amounts to 30% of total maintenance of vertical roller mill. Therefore, this study shows the fracture mechanism of table liner for vertical roller mill using FEM and fatigue analysis

With society focusing more and more on environmental issues, the recycling of materials of all types has become an important concern. In this paper, optimization method is developed for reducing cost and improving quality in mill scale recycling. An experimental investigation into the process parameter effects is presented to determine the optimum configuration of parameters for performance, quality and cost. Taguchi's optimization approach was used to obtain the optimal parameters. The significant parameters were identified and their effects on mill scale recycling were studied. As a results, a confirmation experiment with the optimal levels of process parameters was carried out in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Taguchi method.
