A Study on the Employment Effect of SMEs Engaged in Trade Using Quantile Regression
장지영,해도우 아브널 한국무역상무학회 2022 貿易商務硏究 Vol.94 No.-
The heterogeneous effects of trade on the SMEs’ employment were examined using a quantile regression. The unbalanced panel data categorized by the enterprises’ size was constructed during the period of 2012~2018 for 22 OECD countries. As for SMEs with 50 to 249 employees, trade has a significantly positive effect on the employment except for the 0.6 quantile. But, relatively large companies with 250 or more employees showed an insignificantly negative (-) relationship across the distribution while having significantly negative effect with the import. The substitution effect was dominant over scale effect for labor demand. As for Korea, the export structure of Korea is moving to the direction of saving labor. The employment inducement coefficient for large exporting enterprises was low and negative for SMEs. And the youth employment for aged 20~29 showed a statistically insignificant relationship with the trade balance regardless of the enterprises’ size.
