Ha(Dong-A Univ,)<br/> ABSTRACT<br/> To investigate the method of the simultaneous reduction of Soot and NOx, we developed a new conception for dual fuel stratified injection system in a Diesel Engine.<br/> Some parts of the injection system, ie. nozzle holder, delivery vale. were remodeled to inject diesel and methanol in order from one injector. The Quantity of diesel and methanol was controled precisely by micrometers that were mounted at control lack of injection pump.<br/> The real injection Quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection Quantity experiment. We could confirm the capability that soot and NOx simultaneously were reduced by diesel-methanol stratified injection from the results of combustion and exhaust characteristic.<br/>

In a SI engine, three- way catalyst converter has the best efficiency when A/F ratio is near the stoichiometry. The feedback control using oxygen sensors in the commercial engine has limits caused by the system delays. So it is necessary to control fuel Quantity in accordance with intake air amount in order to reduce exhaust emission and improve the specific fuel consumption. Precise A/F ratio control requires measurement of air amount with respect to the cylinder and injection fuel accounting to the air amount In this paper, we applied nonlinear fuel injection model, and developed the algorithm of A/F ratio control. This algorithm includes the methods of measurement of transient air mass flowing into each cylinder, of calculation of injection pulse width for measured air mass, and the method of feedback and estimation control by using lambda sensor. Also we developed control program for IBM-PC by using C++ Builder, and tested it in the commercial engine. The results we have got from the work better than those of the commercial ECU.

In spite of economical efficiency, high reliability, a excellent chracteristic of generating power, internal combustion engine has problem of environmental pollution. Because of such reason, CO, HC, particulate and NOx must be reduced and the technique of combustion analysis need. This study aims to compare heat release by ensemble average of the existing method .with a consequence get by least squares method for pressure data. This paper proposes heat release computation method that can analyze combustion phenomenon of close the most truth straight, simple.<br/> In conclusion, we found that the least squares method of third-order fits computational method of heat release very well.<br/>

The combustion process of spark-ignition engine takes places in a turbulent flow field has been influenced by the flow characteristics of mixture and discharge energy. Experiments were carried out with parameters such as the shape of swirl control valves. discharge pattern and distribution of ignition energy.<br/> This study aims to development of ignition system by analysis of flow characteristics of mixture flow in an engine and ignition energy for enhancement of the ignitability of lean mixture.<br/>

It is a necessary condition to control the precise air-fuel ratio with real time for the stability of lean burn including transient operating condition as well as other factors as flow of mixture and ignition energy in SI engine.<br/> This study aims to development of software and hardware such as the engine control system and interface. Real time control system is introduced and its characteristics are tested in SI engine. The real time control system was applied to SI engine and the results are shown.<br/>

Ignition instabilities and reduced flame propagation rates result in the increased cycle-to-cycle combustion variations associated in lean burn.<br/> Combustion stability under lean mixture conditions could be improved by increasing burning rates through enhanced flow characteristics and by securing ignitability with newly developed ignition systems.<br/> Inclined tumble(swirl) flows were induced by three different swirl control valves. The initial flame propagation was visualized by an ICCD camera and its image were analyzed to compare the enflamed area and displacement of intial flames<br/> It was found that there is a correlation between the stronger tumble during induction and comparison and turbulence levels at the time of ignition resulting in faster flame development. Inclined tumble was proved to be more beneficial than the pure tumble for shorter combustion duration and stable combustion under lean mixture conditions, which was confirmed by faster propagation flame image.<br/>

Lean burn combustion became an important concept for improving fuel economy and reducing exhaust emissions. However, lean burning is associated with increased cycle-to-cycle combustion variations due to the ignition instabilities and reduced propagation rates. Engine stability under lean mixture conditions could be improved by increasing burning rates through enhanced flow characteristics and by securing ignitability with better ignition systems.<br/> The effects of flow and ignition characteristics on the combustion performances are investigated in a 4-yalve SI engine. Flow characteristics of tumble-swirl were varied with swirl control valve attached at the inlet ports, while ignition energy and its distribution were controlled in a high-frequency ignition system by changing spark duration and spark frequency. The improvement of lean burn performance by the optimum flow and ignition characteristics was discussed.<br/>
