신속한 국제화 기업에서 해외사업 및 연구개발활동에 대한 인적자원의 비중이 해외사업성과에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 신속한 국제화를 단행하는 기업에서 해외사업 및 연구개발 활동을 담당하는 인적자원의 비중이 해외사업성과에 미치는 비선형효과를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 국제기업가정신과 자원기반관점에 근거하여 연구가설을 설정하였으며, 한국의 신속한 국제화 기업을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 분석 결과, 국제경영활동에 대한 인적자원의 비중은 해외시장에서의 성장만족도 및 해외사업매출액 비중 둘 다와 역U자형의 비선형관계(an inverted U-shaped relationship)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 연구개발활동에 대한 인적자원의 비중은 해외시장에서의 성장만족도에만 한계적(marginal)으로 비선형효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 신속한 국제화 기업에서 해외사업 및 연구개발활동에 대한 인적자원의 비중과 해외사업성과 간의 관계에서 비선형효과가 나타날 수 있음을 실증적으로 분석한 최초의 연구라고 할 수 있다. 이런 점에서 본 연구 결과는 인적자원의 질적인 부분뿐만 아니라 양적인 부분도 신속한 국제화를 단행하는 기업은 중요하게 고려해야 한다는 점을 제시하고 있다. This study explores the non-linear effect of labour resources devoted to IB and R&D activities on the international performance of early internationalizing SMEs. Drawing on literature regarding international entrepreneurship and a resource-based view, hypotheses are developed and tested using data collected from early internationalizing SMEs in South Korea. The results indicate that the proportion of employees devoted to IB activities has an inverted U-shaped relationship with two types of performance. Proportion of employees devoted to R&D activities is found to have an inverted U-shaped relationship with satisfaction with foreign market growth, albeit marginally. This research would be the first to provide empirical evidence that the labour resources devoted to IB and R&D activities have a non-linear relationship with performance in early internationalizing SMEs. The findings complement the extant literature that indicates that both the quantity and quality of labour resources is of importance to early internationalizing SMEs.
