Hard Tissue Replacement (HTR) is a synthetic polymer, which has been used as a substitute material clinically in case of bone defects, alveolar ridge augmentation and alveolar ridge maintenance. This experimental study was designed for evaluation of implanted HTR s biocompatibility to the host bone. HTR was implanted in the parietal bones and femurs of twenty-two rabbits. At an every interval of 4 days, 1 week 2, 4 and 8 weeks, four rabbits were killed, and the parietal bone and femurs where HTR had been implanted were decalcified for histological examination and transmitted to electron microscopy. At 4 days after implantation, a thin granular membranous structure surrounded HTR implant. A few inflammatory cells were intermingled with macrophages. An organizing hematoma lay on the inner surface of bone defect. At one week to 2 weeks, the capsule became a granulation tissue characterized by admixture of macrophages, fibroblasts and inflammatory cells. At 4 weeks to 8 weeks after implantation, the capsule turned out to be a scar tissue composed of abundant ollagens with few cellular components. The results suggested that HTR was compatible with host bone tissue, although minimal inflammatory reaction and thin fibrous capsule formation around HTR were present.

For this study, total of persons above 18 years old (male 100persons, female 96 persons) who has normally arranged maxillary anterior teeth and Angle's classification I in posterior occlusion were measured on the bizygomatic width, nasal and mouth width for the degree of esthetic exposure of maxillary anterior teeth. The results from this study were as follows: 1. The average of the bizygomatic width showed 125.29±6.23mm in total, 130.45±6.12mm in male, 120.12±6.34mm in female. 2. The average of the interalar nasal width in male (39.20±2.93mm) estimated longer than in female (33.62±1.84mm) and the average of both sexes showed 36.41±2.39mm. 3. The average destance of the rime oris in male (45.40±4.59mm) appeared longer than in female (43.33±3.83mm) and the average of both sexes was 44.36±4.21mm. 4. The lacation of the rime oris showed the most distribution on canine mesial 2/4 in male and canine distal 2/4 in female. 5. The average distance between the lower border of the upper lip and the incisal edge of the upper incisors showed 2.05±1.06mm in right and left, 2.30±1.08mm in right only and 2.07±1.04mm in left only on both sexes.
