In order to deduce an objective evaluation method of motion seasickness incidence (MSI) by ship motions during underway in irregular waves and to present the fundamental data of passenger comfort on the yacht and the passenger ship according to the result, the MSI of the trainees by the questionnaires was analysed and compared with the rate of variation of salivary α-amylase activity (VSAA) on the training ship A-ra ho of Jeju national university. Relationship between rate of variation (x)by salivary α-amylase activity and motion seasickness incidence (y) was described by the equation, MSI(%) = 0.6073 x +12.189 including the correlation coefficient (R2= 0.9853). The result obtained through the rate of variation of salivary α-amylase activity which was the quantitative evaluation method for ship motions causing seasickness was most affected by z-vertical acceleration and occurred within the frequency range 0.1 to 0.3Hz centered on 0.2Hz, and the simulation result based on this finding showed the motion seasickness rate at approximately 4% lower than the rate obtained through the survey.

In order to improve the availability of underwater sound by the fundamental data on the hearing ability, the auditory thresholds for the bambooleaf wrasse pseudolabrus japonicus were determined at 80㎐, 100㎐, 200㎐, 300㎐, 500㎐ and 800㎐ by heartbeat conditioning method using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. The audible range of the bambooleaf wrasse extended from 80㎐ to 800㎐ with the best sensitivity around 100㎐ and 200㎐. In addition, the auditory thresholds over 300㎐ increased rapidly. The mean auditory thresholds of the bambooleaf wrasse at the test frequencies, 80㎐, 100㎐, 200㎐, 300㎐, 500㎐ and 800㎐ were 100㏈,95.1㏈, 94.8㏈, 109㏈, 121㏈ and 125㏈, respectively. Auditory critical ratios for the bambooleaf wrasse were measured using masking stimuli with the spectrum level range of about 70, 74, 78㏈ (0㏈ re 1μ㎩/√㎐). According to white noise level, the auditory thresholds increased as compared with thresholds in a quiet background noise. The Auditory masking by the white noise spectrum level was stared over about 60㏈ within 80~300㎐. Critical ratios to be measured at frequencies from 80㎐ to 300㎐ were minimum 33㏈ and maximum 39㏈.

In this study it will be discussed how to solve the problem of discomfort from rolling motion on the small fishing boats. Up to now, the equipments of reducing rolling system can be examined by various case, but difficult to apply small vessel by function, space and costly establishment. A way of improving the feeling of getting on a boat through the equipped sail at stern edge of bulwark top was researched and developed. The author has tested the sailing performance of the experimental skiff boat, from the signals obtained by the inclinometer in irregular waves and compared with the results got in sail on and off mode operation for 10 minutes duration at the conditions of stop and underway. These data has been analyzed in the application statistical methods. Eventually we summarize the analyzed results obtained from the vessel while stationary and underway for two cases, the vessel with a sail and the vessel without a sail. The field test was done in Jeju outer harbor. The ratio of the motion responses at resonance for the sail with and without cases indicate that under given conditions the motion was reduced by the efficiency of diminution is 4.726%, 2.792% in the stopping and 11.663%, 3.282% in the underway and mean rolling periods are 2.158, 2.142, 2.421, 2.412sec. and 1.968, 1.963, 2.089, 2.051sec. respectively. Consequently the efficiency of diminution was higher when the ship is underway and rolling periods got longer in the equipped sail.

제주도 북부연안역의 해황 및 조석전선의 변동특성을 파악하기 위하여 $1991\~1993$년까지 CTD에 의한 해황조사를 실시하고, 조석전선의 위치 Energy를 계산하여 분석하였다. 1 제주도 북부연안역의 국소지역에서는 해협의 중앙부 및 주변해역보다 상대적으로 저온v고염한 해수가 자주 출현하여 주변수 사이에는 국지적 수온 $\cdot$염분전선을 형성하는 경우가 많았다. 이와 같은 현상은 제주도 북부연안역에서의 용승 혹은 조석전선에 의해 발생하는 것이며, 위치는 지형이 다소 돌출된 곳과 수심이나 해저지형이 해$\cdot$조류의 흐름에 영향을 줄 수 있는 곳으로 제주도 서쪽의 차귀도와 비양도 연안, 애월북부 연안역과 제주시 부근 및 함덕 북부해역, 제주도 동쪽의 우도 북부와 행원부근해역에서 자주 출현하고 있다. 2. 제주해협내에는 성질이 서로 다른 이질수괴가 마주치고 있으므로 안장형 (Saddle)의 수온$\cdot$염분분포가 거의 매월 출현하여 안장형의 중앙역이나 이질수괴간의 경계역에서 수온$\cdot$염분전선이 형성된다. 3. 제주도 연안역을 대상으로 계산된 조석전선의 성층계수 (stratification parameter-V ($J/m^3$) )는 6월이 $8.4\~209.8\;J/m^3$의 범위이며, 8월이 $201.9\~634.9\;J/m^3$. 9월 $0.18\~680\;J/m^3$, 10월 $2.7\~462\;J/m^3$의 분포범위로 제주도 북부연안역 약 $1\~2$해리 범위내의 수심변화가 심한 해역에서 위치에너지 10$J/m^3$정도의 등치선이 출현해 조석전선이 형성되고 있으며 이는 대략 50m등심선과 일치했다. The general pattern of the hydrographic conditions and tidal front of the northern coastal area of Cheju Island is investigated using the CTD observation data and a stratification parameter V ($J/m^3$) in $1991\~1993$. 1. The sea water of the northern coastal area of Cheju Island has a lower temperature and higher salinity than that in the central area of the Strait, and local temperature and salinity fronts appears frequently around this area. It seems that they are caused by the upwelling and the tidal front as well as a local topography. 2. A saddle-like distribution of temperature and salinity is formed in the Cheju Strait almost every month with relation to mixing of the different water masses. 3. In the northern coastal area of Cheju Island the stratification parameter V ($J/m^3$) was ranged from 8.4 to 209.8 $J/m^3$ in June, 201.9 to 634.9 $J/m^3$ in August, 0.18 to 680 $J/m^3$ in September, and $2.7\~462\;J/m^3$ in October, respectively. The tidal front was often formed around the place where the horizontal variation of the depth is very large and the potential energy with 10$J/m^3$ appears roughly along 50 m isobath.
