In this paper, a control algorithm on how to determine the torque at each wheel is proposed for vehicle safety of an in-wheel independent drive electric vehicle. This control algorithm is designed by considering both wheel slip control and vehicle dynamic control. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the algorithm, a co-simulator is developed under MATLAB Simulink and CarSim simulation environment. It is found from the simulation results for the slalom test that the control algorithm proposed in this study is able to provide satisfactory driving performance with vehicle stability.

Hyundai Motor Company developed the second generation of fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle based on Tucson SUV in 2004. This vehicle has cold start capability below -10C and its driving performances including maximum speed and accelerating time are almost similar to conventional Tucson SUV's performances without any sacrifice in terms of cabin space. Especially. the cold start capability was realized by utilizing only internal power sources such as fuel cell power and high voltage lithium ion polymer battery. In this paper, we will briefly introduce specifications of Tucson FCEV and its driving performances based on field test and simulations.

The performance of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) mainly depends on water and thermal behavior in the fuel cell systems. The PEMFC model structure that describes water transport phenomena, thermal properties, and electrochemical reactions is developed. We considered that the PEMFC system consists of three physically distinctive parts; the anode channel, the cathode channel and the fuel cell MEA. The mass conservation law and the energy conservation law are adopted to each physical part as a control volume and the steady-state electrochemical model for the membrane is adopted to the fuel cell MEA control volume for the output voltage. For a preliminary study on modeling of the PEMFC, the physical and the electrochemical phenomena of the control volume were mathematically described.

In this paper, Cell voltage monitoring method is studied for fault detection of PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) for FCEV(fuel cell electric vehicle). To measuring several hundred of cells in fuel cell stack, The demanded feature of hardware and software is studied and several types are analysed. Finally, 3.26% maximum measuring error is acquired and verified experimentally.
