Objectives; The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare predisposing factors associated with temporomandibular joint disorders(TMD) between military personnel and civilian in their 20s. Methods; To find out the behavioral and habitual characteristical difference between military soldiers and civilian on TMD, patients who visited Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicin clinic of Armed forces Yang-ju Hospital and Kyung hee University Dental Hospital from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018, were included. They were all male patients with TMD in their 20s(under the Korean military obligatory services age) and evaluated with diagnostic analysis charting and questionnaire. The statistical analysis were done by student's t-test and chi square test. Results; A total 381 patients with TMD was consisted of 182 TMD patients of military personnel and 199 TMD patients of civilian. In habitual characteristic, side/stomach sleeper, unknown clenching, chin buttress, eccentric jaw movement habit, lip/finger tip biting habit were significantly higher in military personnel. In aggravating factors, coldness was significantly higher in military personnel. In diagnosis, myositis was significantly higher and capsulitis was significantly lower in military personnel. Conclusions; Enhanced understanding of behavioral and habitual characteristics in TMD patients of military personnel would be helpful in prevention and treatment of TMD in ROK military dentistry.
젊은 남성에서 간접 거대 외상 병력에 따른 턱관절 장애 특징에 관한 연구

Objectives; Trauma has been accepted as a contributing factor for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). When we considering the working environment of military service, there is a high risk of experiencing trauma. This study was aim to examine the influence of indirect macrotrauma on radiographic, clinical and psychological characteristics of TMD patients. Methods; To find the influence of indirect macrotrauma on TMD, patients who visited Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine clinic of Seoul National University Dental Hospital from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2015, were included. They were all patients with TMD under the Korean military obligatory services age and evaluated with the TMJ X-ray, TMJ MRI, TMD diagnostic analysis charting and SCL-90R. The statistical analysis was done using the logistic regression analysis and chi square test. Results; A total 180 patients with TMD was consisted of 36 TMD patients with macrotrauma history and 144 TMD patients without macrotrauma history. In radiographic, clinical and psychological characteristics, TMD patients with macrotrauma history showed no significant difference with TMD patients without trauma history. Conclusions; There was no significant difference whether the patients had history of indirect macrotrauma or not in regards with radiographic, clinical, and psychological characteristics of TMD.
병사용 진단서 발부 유무에 따른 젊은 남성 턱관절 장애 특징에 관한 연구

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of issuing medical certificate on clinical, psychological and radiological characteristics of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). In some studies, the degree of TMD in patients with litigation was more than who don’t. But, there was no study to figure out the influence among Korean young male who were in the age of obligatory military age. Methods: To find out the influence or issuing medical certificate for military service on TMD, patients who visited Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicin clinic of Seoul National University Dental Hospital from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2015, were included. They were all patients with TMD under the Korean military obligatory services age and evaluated with the TMJ X-ray, TMJ MRI, TMD diagnostic analysis charting and SCL-90R. The statistical analysis were done by logistic regression and chi square test. Results: A total 180 patients with TMD was consisted of 78 TMD patients with issuing medical certificate and 102 TMD patients without issuing. In radiographic characteristics, TMD patients who issued medical certificate showed that disc displacement was significantly higher and effusion was significantly lower. In clinical characteristics, TMD patients who issued medical certificate showed both PI and CMI were significantly higher. Conclusions: Issued medical certificate showed significant differences in radiographic and clinical characteristics.
