This study analyzed market price trends in North Korea and empirically analyzed price correlations between North Korea and China by utilizing recent data. The analysis targets are various products traded in North Korea`s consumer goods market, and the analysis period is from the first quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2016. According to the research findings, political and economic factors and trade with China affected market prices in the country. The results of analyzing North Korea`s market price trends are as follows. First, recent market prices in the country showed regional differences. Generally, prices in the western region were low and those in the eastern region high. Second, price trends of products traded in the North Korean market indicated differences by item. The cause seems to be that changes in the volume of supply by item influenced prices. Third, prices soared in the North Korean market in the third and fourth quarters of 2012. The reason for this phenomenon seems to be that the market was unsettled due to concerns over economic sanctions against the market after Kim Jongun`s seizure of power. An empirical analysis between North Korea`s market prices and its import prices from and export prices to China shows that estimated coefficients of rice, flour, petroleum, and lignite were significant positive values. Therefore, trade with China is judged to have partly affected North Koreans.
