This study deals with the life prediction for high pressure hose of power steering system by impulse pressure test. The case of producing high impulse pressure in the power steering system happens when turning the car. we got the experimental data with impulse pressure with same situation referred above. Also, this data adapted CALT method(Calibrated Accelerated Life Test method) to predict the life of high pressure hose. Based on this date, we predict the life cycle of high pressure hose for power steering system

Hydraulic hose can be divided with low pressure, medium pressure, and high pressure hose according to applied pressure. Power steering system in passenger car can be divided with high pressure and low pressure hose. This study deals with the life prediction for high pressure hose to be given impulse pressure which was generated in turning the car. To adjust with external and internal condition, impulse pressure and oil temperature need to be controlled with impulse test system. The result, which is only controlled with the pressure and oil temperature, adapted Calibrated Accelerated Life Test(CALT) method to predict the life of high pressure hose and analyzed the swagging part by finite element method during impulse test.

Generally, a leakage in a high pressure hose assembly can be determined if hydraulic fluid falls down through fitting which is swaged with a rubber hose. This study tried to visualize leakage, which is considered a failure occurring often in the hydraulic system. In the case of methods which verify leakage paths in the power steering hydraulic system equipped with a high pressure hose assembly, three types of leakage paths, which could be seen by cutting the swaging part, were generally found. However, it was difficult to find out leakage paths by using power steering oil. In this study, four methods, including the thermal burn image method, the hole drilling method of fitting metal, the white paint infiltration method, and the fluorescent infiltration method, were tried to introduce. Reappearance test methods in the high pressure hose assembly, which include a hole drilling, a white paint infiltration, and a fluorescent infiltration method, can be applied to find the failure mode and to approve the test before the mass production of the high pressure hose. Finally, we found the leakage path of the power steering hose by the fluorescent infiltration method and that can be useful to modify and old system.
