This paper describes the tumble flow measurements inside the cylinder of a 4-valve S.I. engine using laser Doppler velocimetry(LDV) under motoring(non-conditions. This is conducted on an optically assesed single<br/> <br/> cylinder research engine under motored conditions at an engine speed 0 1000 rpm. Three different cylinder head intake port configurations are studied to develope a better understanding of the tumble flow generation, development, and breakdown mechanisms.<br/>

An experiment was conducted to figure out the atomization characteristics of a highly viscous biodiesel fuel with rice-bran oil applying and ultrasonic energy into it. A spray simulator for the droplet atomization, an ultrasonic system, and six different nozzels(3 pintle-type nozzles and 3 sin-gle hole-type nozzles) were made. To investigate effects of ultrasonic energy in a highly viscous liquid fuel, an immersion liquid method was used as a measurement method on droplet size distributions.<br/> It was found that the ultrasonic energy was effective .for the atomization improvement of the rice-bran oil as a highly viscous biodiesel fuel and the factors, such as the nozzle opening pressure, pin-edge angles, hole diameters, and collection distances affected the atomization of spray droplets.<br/>

In this paper, an experiment was conducted to figure out the atomization characteristics of rice-bran oil which is a high viscous fluid. For this study, an ultrasonic system, injection system, and six different nozzles(three kinds of single hole type nozzles, three kinds of pintle type nozzles) were made. To investigate effects of ultrasonic energy in a high viscous fluid. an immersion method and an phase doppler particle analyzer were used as method of measurement on droplets distribution. As results, droplets diameters of rice-bran oil were apparently decreased. by using ultrasonic energy more than not using it, according to rise nozzle open pressure and become more collection distance in the same experimental conditions.<br/>

This paper describes frequency analysis of the turbulent flow inside the cylinder of an engine under motoring(non-firing) conditions, with intake port and engine speed variations. Using LDV data cycle resolved turbulence intensity, cyclic variation, temporal autocorrelation coefficient, and turbulence kinetic energy spectrum with respect to crank angle are presented and discussed in detail.<br/>
