Thomas wrote “If I Were Tickled by the Rub of Love” according to exact and carefully planned method. It is evident that he expresses sex with his own unique view point, which has been one of the universal and fundamental concerns to mankind, including birth and growth, life and death. Thomas attempts to express his own idea about oneness of all and tries to correspond the form meaning that he used a lot of monosyllable words in this poem. Besides, there are some characteristics in Thomas’s poetry - the relations between sound and meaning, paradox, rhythm and repetition and etc. Ackerman said that such characteristics in Thomas’s poetry would be due to the Celtic or Welsh literature. He extended his idea that sex could be raised upon to the level of God. In this respect, it was not sex but sexuality that he wanted to express in this poem. He insisted on his idea, in this poem, that sex is ultimate thing to him, while it is dreadful to him, because it brought in death to him. so he but it is desirable and could be extended throughout this universe. Furthermore, he expressed that man could be equal to Christ, so the death of Christ is to be thought of that of man or both could be discussed on the same level.

Even though it is fragmentary, D. Thomas"s poetic theory is referred to discretely in his letters. His views about poetry and literature are not systematic and organized, only but a light discourse on writing poems. This is because from the beginning he discarded logical thinking and shunned intellectual life, and because he looked into things intuitively and wrote some of his best poems, not with head, but with heart.<BR> The consistent themes are expressed by means of the following techniques: pantheism, dialectic process, juxtaposition of the images, parallel of the images, paradoxes, duality, organic images, and the use of image-making process under the great subjects ― that of oneness of the inner world and the outer world or the interior and the exterior, oneness of body and spirit ― oneness of all. In his letters, we can read how such an attitudes influenced upon his writing poems.

It is obvious that man has lived in time and with time. It is, therefore, no wonder that time has been one of the most important themes or motifs in literature which is said to reflect and represent the human life. Some philosopers and writers viewed time as 'negative', while others viewed it as 'positive', and some viewed it as 'creative', whereas others viewed it as 'destructive.' Time has also dual aspect like man. Time has been discussed broadly and frequently by many people, but no one has given absolute and definite answer to the question that: what is time? Making use of H. Berson's view of time which defined time as 'flow', 'change', 'consciousness', and 'duration', however, the writer attempted to reveal the relations between time and life, love(sex), death, and rebirth, by looking into Thomas's early poem in 18 Poems. Because it seems to me that the view of time of D. Thomas is similar to that of H. Bergson. D. Thomas thought of death as a new life and H. Bergson viewed revolution as creative. Martin E. Gingerich says that it will be very helpful for understanding and interpreting Thomas's poetry to know time and personae represented in his poems. He says that the personae try to transcend time, accepting the flow of time and change of things. The writer thinks that the attitude of the persona is the very attitude of Thomas himself and further that of the whole human beings. The transcendence of time means longing for timelessness, and timelessness means eternity, which seems to represent man's permanent but unachieved wish. Thomas showed his pantheistic view of man with which he coincided man and nature, and maintained that the power of driving away the flower in nature, drives away his green age in man. The writer thinks that the powers are the same and the power is the very time, because time has always and equally worked upon everything everywhere. Sometimes Thomas viewed time as the destroyer like the leech and a worm which suck the source of life and let the life fall into death. Accordingly, time is death in Thomas. But it is more significant that the death does not end in death, rather it brings a new life as the death of Christ which brings rebirth and salvation of life for mankind. Thomas maintained that time is a kind of paradox and irony through which time could be overcome through time as in the case of Christ's Death. Just as man cannot solve his problems and he tries to solve his problems through the power of God which is, in a sense, opposite to him, as time can be. Thomas seems to think that time can be solved through time. Thus, he sought to fine out the answer from the attitude toward timelessness. The act of love in Thomas means not only the creation of a new life in time and with time, but at the same time means the destruction of the actor himself of the love, while contradiction, limitation, and distinction and absurdity of Thomas and further human beings may be overcome, in that destruction means a new creation and brings a new life. As is shown in "From Love's Fever..." he wrote: 'All world was one, one windy nothing,' he emphasized that all the world and all phenomena are one. This seems to the writer that time, life, love(sex), death, and rebirth are one, because one of them cannot exis without the other and each cannot be thought of without the other.
