Objectives : The purpose of this study is the investigation of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of starfish fermented extract. Methods : In this study, we investigated the anti-oxidant effect of starfish fermented extract through 1,1-Diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity and the anti-inflammtory effect through inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) and nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated Raw 264.7 macrophages respectively. The starfish extract was fermented by Cordyceps militaris. Results : The starfish extract before fermentation showed only 10% DPPH radical scavenging activity, while fermented starfish extracts had 77.3% DPPH radical scavenging activity. In the case of anti-inflammatory, the extract had inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2. Also it decreased the production of NO in Raw 264.7 cells activated by LPS. Conclusions : The starfish fermented extract had anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect and the efficacy increased by fermentation.
약침 V, TA, SH의 NO 및 염증성 사이토카인 억제효과

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory activities of V Yakchim (V), TA Yakchim (TA) and SH Yakchim (SH). Methods : To investigate the anti-inflammtory effects of V, TA, and SH, nitric oxide (NO) production, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated Raw 264.7 macrophages were measured. Results : V, TA and SH (100 μg/ml) decreased 17.2%, 12.7%, and 56.3% of NO production, respectively. V, TA and SH also showed anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting IL-6, TNF-α cytokines. Conclusions : These results suggested the possibility that the anti-inflammatory effect of V, TA and SH.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to develope Steanming-Drying Cycles for making high-value Black Ginseng and to investigate Physioactivities of BGP (Black Ginseng Pung-gi). Methods : To investigate saponin of ginseng and black ginseng extracts were examined by HPLC. To investigate ani-inflammatory effect of BGP, NO, TNF-α, IL-6 were measured. Also, the anti-obesity effect of BGP is analyzed by adipocyte differentiation. Results : Rg3 of BGP was increased above 10-ford and many low molecular ginsenosides were formed after Steaming-Drying Cycles. Also, BGP inhibited NO, TNF-α, IL-6 and lipid production. Conclusions : BGP might have anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects. If futher investigations will be done in the future, BGP could be an attractive herbal medicine source for Yackchim.
