This study is to concern about the effort of architectural practice to realize the sustainable architecture. It is necessary to know about the integrated design method which combines the passive design method with the active design method from the initial design phase. One case study is followed to explain the method. Integrated design starts from defining the project and goal setting, site evaluation, design concept, design optimization, documents and specifications, bidding and construction and post occupancy evaluation followed respectively. In order to construct the sustainable design, sophisticated understanding about nature and its' principle is important and adaptable application of nature and climate depending on location is followed. In conclusion, architects and specialists of sustainable design should make an effort more study.

The purpose of this study is to study design methods of Norman Foster, focusing on his efforts for the passive architecture of accomplishing effective energy usage and energy load reduction, In order to study the sustainable design method of Norman Foster, his previous works were studied to find his attempts to consider ecology in his design. Also, characteristics of Norman Foster architecture and his sustainable design methods were searched through case studies. In Norman Foster's design method for sustainable architecture, the building shape was designed on the basis of analysis of surrounding environment in initial design stage, reducing energy load effectively. Also, the skin system of building was devised properly to reduce energy load for heating and cooling. In his design, the atrium and inner garden were mainly used to bring natural daylight and ventilation inside building, maintaining fresh air condition. The sustainable design elements of Norman Foster reflect on his architectural philosophy that architecture is symbiosis with nature as an organism depending on environment and local condition. In order to build sustainable architecture, more study is needed on passive design method for reducing energy consumption as well as active solution using high technology.
공원 내 공중화장실의 친환경 건축계획 방안에 관한 연구

As public awareness of global warming increases, the construction industry requires more knowledge than ever about environmental issues. Now a new generation of scientists, architects, and engineers are radically rethinking how we build. In recent years, the issue of public toilets has developed from an inconvenient subject into one that attracts great attention. However, the effort to make them more sustainable is still insignificant compared with that of other types of buildings. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the problems of public toilets and green building certification programs, to draw basic data through the use of a survey and to facilitate the utilization of appropriate sustainable design elements to create environmentally responsible public toilets. There was no specific guideline for the green public toilet, so the sustainable design elements were set based on the national green building certification program. However the crucial factors in the survey differed from what was considered important in the program such as energy, water resource and interior environment.
