In this paper, test results for USNCAP crash by NHTSA were reviewed from statistical analysis. This review focused on results of side pole crash test. In order to investigate the performance for USNCAP side pole crash test, it selected total 20 light vehicles including 5 SUVs, 10 MPVs and 5 Pickups . These results were summarized as followings. For side pole crash test, pelvis injury which is sum of illiac and acetabular force made contribution to the average Pjoint performance to 78%. In special, it showed very large deviation in the same body region. Curtain airbag was equipped with all test vehicles, but driver pelvis airbag were equipped with 19 test vehicles. The performance of only one vehicle without pelvis airbag got lowest 1 star rating. The overall performance shows similar trend to passenger cars. Side pole crash test has also appeared to large standard deviation between test vehicles. In order to reduce the deviation, the countermeasure for USNCAP side pole crash test is essential to both effective design from pole impact and restraint system to control dummy kinematics.

Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) are mainly used to the ISG system for high power density. Due to the cost of rare earth increasing, ensuring cost competitiveness has been to a critical issue in spite of PMSM have high power density advantage. Other types motor such as inductance motor doesn’t use rare earth, whereas have the low power density. In this paper, a developed e-Assist system that used to Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor (WRSM) is propesed to complement these drawbacks. High performance can be achieved without using the rare earth.

This paper statistically reviewed for the USNCAP frontal crash test results carried out by NHTSA. Vehicle samples were selected on total 20 vehicles which were included on 15 MPV&SUV and 5 Pickup. The results was summarized as followings. The driver’s performance was better than the passenger’s in the average sense. There are several differences between driver and passenger in the USNCAP front test, for example dummy size, seating position, airbag style. Main effect was Neck injury for crash performance on both dummies for the average value. Root cause of neck injury was different for each dummy, ie, the driver caused from Nte & Ntf, but the passenger did absolutely Nte mode. Reliability is dependent upon chest injury on the driver and neck injury on the passenger from the standard deviation. Restraint system was also summarized.

This paper presents an advanced ISG system for internal combustion engines and hybrid electric vehicle applications to reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions, and enhance energy efficiency and increase torque. The ISG system provides all the functions of engine starter motor and alternator in one electric system installed between the engine without significantly increasing the weight and volume of the vehicle. Torque improvement test were performed at low engine speed with ISG system that deliver WRSM power to the crankshaft. Conclusions are drawn as to the torque improvement of the ISG system.
