글쓰기의 유창성과 언어적 복잡성이 제2언어 쓰기 점수를 예측할 수 있는가?

This study explores the relationships among L2 learners' writing fluency behaviors, their use of specific linguistic features indicating written complexity, and writing quality. Twenty-nine L1-Korean EFL undergraduate students completed a picture narrative task. The learners' writing fluency behaviors were assessed with the help of keystroke logging software. The linguistic complexity of their writing (i.e., syntactic complexity, lexical complexity, and cohesion) was analyzed using automated text analysis tools. The quality of the writing was evaluated by raters based on an analytic rubric. The results from a multiple regression analysis showed that writing quality was best predicted by one fluency measure (i.e., p-burst length), while the writing fluency behavior measures were not related to any measure of linguistic complexity. The findings indicate a link between writing fluency and writing quality, and provide implications regarding the processes and products of L2 writing.

영국 그린햄커먼 여성평화캠프에 관한 연구(1981-1984) :저항주체의 형성을 중심으로

그린햄커먼 여성평화캠프는 1981년부터 2000년까지 잉글랜드 버크셔(Berkshire) 영국공군기지(RAF Airbase) 주변에서 나토(NATO)의 크루즈미사일 기지 건설에 반대하여 진행된 여성평화운동 캠프를 일컫는다. 1982-1986년간 평화캠프의 활동이 정점에 했던 시기 캠프에 거주하는 여성 활동가들은 수 백 명에 달했다. 1982년 2월 캠프에 정착한 여성 활동가들은 ‘여성들만’(women only)이 참여하도록 허용된 그린햄커먼 여성평화캠프(Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp) 건설을 공표했다. ‘그린햄커먼 여성 평화캠프’는 여성들만 거주하는 공간이 됨으로써 이 운동은 남성중심의 군사주의에 반대하는 페미니스트 운동의 중요한 진지가 되었다. 필자들은 여성적 주체성은 ‘되기’(becoming)의 과정이자 기획의 일부라는 입장에 서 있다. 본 연구는 그린햄캠프의 투쟁과정을 통해 캠프참여자들이 어떻게 저항적 주체로 구성되어 갔는가를 분석한다. 캠프의 여성들은 일상을 통해 생활의 기술을 서로 배우고, 삶의 경험을 공유했으며, 새로운 민주주의를 만들어 내었다. 수개월에 걸쳐 하나의 직접 행동을 기획하면서 캠프의 활동가들은 참여자 모두 투쟁의 중심이 되도록 만들었다. 중심의 부재를 통해 각자가 중심이 되는 새로운 실천의 조직이었다. 더불어 그녀들은 퀴어의 실천을 통해 폭력적 기구인 군기지, 경찰, 법정을 희화화 했다. 펜스 절단과 같은 평화캠프의 전투적인 저항행동은 여성 스스로의 힘으로 자신을 증명하는 것이었지만 동시에이 투쟁을 ‘극장의 퍼포먼스’로 만듦으로써 군사주의로 무장한 남성성을 어떻게 해체시켜야 하는가를 보여주었다. 그린햄커먼 평화캠프에서의 일상의 구성, 투쟁의 기획, 상호 유대의 확산은 그 자체로 캠프 참여자들의 여성-주체-되기 과정이었다. 필자는 주체되기 과정이야말로 평화운동에서 여성적 실천의 의미란 무엇인가를 보여주는 중요한 계기였음을 밝힌다. The Greenham Common Women ’s Peace Camp is a women s peace camp that was held against the construction of NATO s cruise missile base around the RAF Airbase in Berkshire, England, from 1981 to 2000. During the peak of Peace Camps between 1982 and 1984, the number of female activists lived in camps reached approximately hundreds. Women activists who settled in February 1982 announced the construction of the Greenham Common Women s Peace Camp, where ‘women only’ were allowed to participate. The Greenham Common Women s Peace Camp became a monumental place where only women lived, playing a pivotal role for feminist movements against male-centred militarism. Therefore, feminine subjectivity is not only a process of becoming but also part of planning. This study aims to analyse how the camp participants became composed of resistance subjects through Greenham Camp s struggling process. They learned each other s life skills, shared experiences, and created new democracy through the camp s daily lives. Over the months of planning a single action, the activists in the camp made all participants the centre of the resistance. This was a new form of practice in which each was centred, through the absence of a centre paradoxically. Furthermore, they ‘queered’ violent organizations such as military bases, police, and courtrooms through their ‘Queer practices’. Peace camp s militant resistance activities including the cutting of fences, was to prove themselves by women’s own power, but at the same time, it also clearly showed how to dismantle militarism-armed masculinity by making this struggle into a theatrical performance . The composition of daily life, the planning of struggles, and the spread of mutual bonds at the Greenham Common Peace Camp were literally a process of ‘becoming-women-subjects’ of camp participants. Accordingly, this study argues that the process of ‘Becoming a Subject’ was an opportunity to demonstrate the meaning of feminism practices in the peace movement.

현대물리학 교재의 광전효과 단원에서 빛의 세기에 관한 설명방식과 교육적 함의

광전효과는 빛의 입자성을 설명하는 대표적인 현상으로 고전 물리학에서 현대물리학으로의 전환을 이끈 중요한 주제이다. 중등교육 과정에서도 광전효과를 중요하게 다루고는 있지만, ‘빛의 세기’에 대한 설명이 전자기파의 세기에 대한 설명과 달라서 교사나 학생들이 종종 혼란을 겪고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 현대물리 교재의 광전효과 단원에서 ‘빛의 세기’를 어떻게 설명하고 있는지 분석하였다. 널리 사용되는 10종의 현대물리 교재를 분석한 결과 ‘빛의 세기’가 크게 두 가지 유형으로 설명되고 있었으며, 특히 한 교재 내에서 두 가지 다른 유형의 표현이 모두 나타나기도 하였다. 연구자들은 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 향후 광전효과를 기술하는데 있어서 몇 가지 유의점을 제안하였다. The photoelectric effect is a representative phenomenon explaining the particle nature of light and is an important theme that led to the transition from classical physics to modern physics. Although the secondary school curriculum deals with the photoelectric effect, teachers and students are often confused with terms because the explanation of the ‘light intensity’ is different from that of electromagnetic waves. Hence, this study examines how modern physics textbooks explain the intensity of light through photon model. We analyzed the photoelectric effect unit of 10 modern physics textbooks. Results show that there are two different types of representation on ‘light intensity.’ Especially those two different types were found even within a textbook. Modern physics textbooks do not seem to provide a unified presentation of the light and cautions to describe the photoelectric effect and its interpretation are suggested for teaching light intensity in modern physics.

한 과학 교사가 뉴턴 제1법칙을 가르치면서 경험하는 딜레마 : 객관주의와 구성주의의 이분법적 사고

Many studies on teachers’ dilemmas have put weight on presenting diverse cases and categorization. It is necessary, however, to research the possibility of actually resolving teachers’ dilemmas. This study examines the possibility of resolving a science teacher’s dilemma. The teacher had been in trouble because students could not learn Newton’s First Law through their own experience. He, therefore, encountered the dilemma proposing Aristotle’s theory as the alternative. Underlying the teacher’s choice of Aristotle’s theory is an empiricist view about the relationship between experience and knowledge. This aspect shows that the teacher has been influenced by a constructivist paradigm. The dilemma, however, cannot be resolved by such a dichotomy which forces one to choose between objectivism and constructivism. Beyond the dichotomy about scientific knowledge, we expect to find a way to respond to the dilemma relevantly in a hermeneutic approach to science education. 교사의 딜레마에 관한 연구는 주로 사례 제시 및 유형 분류 등에 치중되어 왔으며, 그 속에서 교사의 딜레마는 해결할 수 없는 성질을 지닌 것으로 판단되어 왔다. 하지만 교사의 딜레마는 교사와 교육계의 당면 과제로서, 해결가능성에 대한 연구가 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 Geelan이라는 교사의 한 가지 딜레마 사례 속에서 나타나는 선택지들을 출발점으로 하여 딜레마 상황의 이면에 놓여 있는 근본 문제를 탐구하고 해결 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. Geelan은 뉴턴 제1법칙을 가르치면서, 학생들이 자신들의 경험과 뉴턴 제1법칙을 연결하는데 어려움을 겪는 상황으로 인하여 딜레마를 경험하게 된다. 그리고 딜레마를 해결하려는 시도과정에서 뉴턴의 법칙대신 아리스토텔레스의 이론을 가르치는 것을 대안으로 고려하게 된다. Geelan이 아리스토텔레스의 이론이라는 선택지를 제시하는 과정 속에는 경험과 지식사이의 관계에 대한 경험주의적인 시각이 드러나 있고 이것은 구성주의 교육사조에 영향을 받은 바가 큰 것으로 보인다. 하지만 객관주의와 구성주의 교육사조 사이에서 선택을 강요받는 이분법적인 사고로는 이와 같은 딜레마를 해결하기 어렵다. 과학 지식에 관한 이분법적인 사고를 넘어 해석학적인 관점으로 접근하는 가운데 Geelan의 딜레마에 대한 해결의 실마리를 찾을 수 있다고 본다.
