스피노자의 "실체"와 "양태"개념을 통한 프랭크 게리 건축의 표현특성 연구

현대의 건축공간은 공간 그 자체에 의미를 두기보다 공간이 인간에게 어떠한 영향을 미치는지와 어떻게 지각하는지에 대해 더 많은 관심을 가지고 있다. 다원화된 사회로부터 인식의 사유 또한 변화하게 되어 유형적 가치에 머물렀던 과거와는 반대로 무형적 가치를 우선시하는 현대에 와서 공간개념에 대한 본질적 의미로서의 접근은 보다 근원적 공간연출과 동시에 새로운 철학적 공간으로 자기 매김하고 있다. 현대 사회의 대표적인 해체주의 건축가 프랭크 게리는 개성적이고 독특한 형태로 나타나는 자신만의 확고한 디자인을 가지며 실험적인 시도와 다양한 표현방법으로 공간에 대한 새로운 개념을 제시하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 스피노자의 ‘실체’와 ‘양태’의 개념을 분석하여 이러한 특성들이 프랭크 게리의 작품 특성과 어떠한 관계성을 담고 있는지 보여주고자 한다. 이에 건축의 본질적 의미를 분석함으로써, 철학적 사유를 통해 그 속에 담겨있는 존재적 가치를 통하여 실체와 양태의 개념에서 바라보는 사유를 통해 프랭크 게리 건축의 의미를 더욱더 확장 시키고자 했다. 미래의 건축 공간을 이해하는 또 다른 근본적인 시각의 틀로써, 실체와 양태의 개념을 통해 의미적 공간, 존재적 공간, 생성적 공간으로의 개념을 확장시키면서 공간속에 무한 가능성을 바라본다. A study of modern architectural space, rather than focusing on space itself, is more interested in the way space affects our life and how it is perceived by us. As the way we perceive the world change in today``s more pluralistic society and in the modern world where the importance of intangible values are emphasized on the contrary to the past where the values remained tangible, architects are approaching the idea of space in its more fundamental meaning and not only producing space in its more fundamental form but also making it a philosophical one. Frank Gary is a deconstructionist architect of the modern world and has a design philosophy based on his unique and characteristics style. He proposes a new concept of space by making experimental attempts and diverse methods of expression. The goal of this paper is to use Spinoza``s idea of substance and mode to explore how these characteristics are related to the works of Frank Gary. By analyzing fundamental significance of architecture, the significance of Frank Gary``s architecture will expand through philosophical reasoning, existential values and the ideas of substance and mode. As another fundamental analytical framework to understand architectural space of future, infinite possibilities can be explored in space through the idea of substance and mode and its idea can be expanded to that of meaningful space, existential space and creative space.
