The purpose of this study was to investigate factors and perception regarding the use of hearing aids according to the hearing threshold degree among presbycusis patients. Sixty senior citizens, aged 65 or older and living in Busan participated in this study. An otoscopy and pure tone test were administerd to measure the participants' hearing level. To find the awareness of hearing aids for the elderly, a questionnaire including 11 background factors and 19 questions about awareness and recognition of hearing aids was administered. Data analyses included T-tests and one-way ANOVA. The results show that the background of the elderly people about their perception was not significantly different except 'purchase intend' factor. At the hearing threshold degree, participants with moderately-severe hearing loss were significantly more perceptive with hearing aids than the elderly with below-moderate hearing loss (56dB). Thus, the 56dB hearing level in the elderly was an important milestone to use hearing aids and undergo rehabilitation for presbycusis patients.
