A new fiber molding process technologies are developed to improve the acoustic performance and control the partial area density of the vehicle sound insulation parts such as dash isolation pad and floor carpet pad. The fiber injection process makes it possible to fill the mold with fiber directly using the air-blowing machine and deform the final insulation part having the better fitting to the body panels. This paper shows that the better acoustic performance and the lower weight of the sound insulation parts can be achieved through the new fiber injection process, compared with the conventional product based on the felt molding or PU(polyurethane) molding process.

In this study, the improvement vehicle exterior idle noise without changing source(engine) but developing vehicle body part were investigated. Contribution of each component identification, quantification techniques for each component, achievement of basic technology was conducted. The main problem areas were identified through a sound camera. The contribution of each component of the noise reduction was quantified through PBNR (Power Based Noise Reduction) technique. When we improve this PBNR value, we achieved competitive vehicle exterior idle noise.
