인(仁)의 윤리적 의미 : 서(恕)와 황금률 Consideration and Golden Rule

Ren(仁) is the central concept of Confucius. Ren is humaneness, humanity and the love for one's man. The methods of practice are Keji fuli(克己復禮 conquering the self and return to ritual). Xiao(孝 filial piety). Ti(悌 fraternal), Zhong(忠 loyalty) and Shu( 恕 consideration). Zhong is the doing of one's best faithfully the responsibility given. She is the attitude of considering others before oneself. Confucius stated that Shu is the principle which must be practiced throughout one's life. Shu is not imposing on others what you yourself do not desire. Similar to Shu is Jesus' Golden Rule which status. "All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets." The Golden Rule is the summarization of the Law and the Sermon on the Mount. Love is the fulfillment of the Law. Jesus summed up the Law as loving God and loving one's neighbor. The Golden Rule is the concreteness of love for one's neighbor. Jesus and Confucius are similar in that Jesus' Golden Rule and Confucius' Ren speak of love for one's neighbor. Jesus and Confucius are qualitatively different in that Jesus spoke of love for one's enemy but Confucius does not. Jesus' Golden Rule therefore is greater than Confucius' Ren in that the love for one's enemy is emphasized. The Golden Rule and Ren become ethical maxims for life and the problems of humanity and the world.
