It has been well known that the new HFC-134a refrigerant system requires high performance and compact evaporator, such as muti-flow type evaporator, to obtain better cooling capacity and system performance since the thermo-physical properties of HFC-134a is completely different from the conventional refrigerant, CFC-12. Many different design of multi-flow type evaporator han been commercialized since the new alternative refrigerant HFC-134a is being introduced. But the thermal design characteristics and informations are nearly unknown up to now. The thermal design and its theoretical analysis has been carried out the multi-flow evaporator(MFE) for automotive air-conditioning system using HFC-13a refrigerant by using a numerical method as a measure to develop MF evaporator design tool and performance simulation. From the present study results, it became possible to predict the cooling capacity, downstream air temperature as well as refrigerant side and air side pressure drop of MF evaporator.<br/>

It has been well known that the new HFC-l34a refrigerant system requires high performance and compact condenser, such as mutiflow type condenser, to obtain better cooling capacity and system performance since' the thermo-physical properties of HFC-l34a is completely different from the conventional refrigerant, CFC-12. Many different design of multi-flow type condenser has been commercialized since the new alternative refrigerant HFC-l34a is being introduced, but the thermal design characteristics and informations are nearly unknown up to now. The thermal design and its theoretical analysis has been carried out the multi-flow condenser(MFC) for automotive air-conditioning system using HFC-l34a refrigerant by using a finite difference method as a measure to develop MF condenser design tool and performance simulation. From the present study results, it became possible to predict the optimum flow pass arrangements, temperature profile along flow pass as well as pressure drop along the flow passage from intake to outlet of MF condenser.
[가솔린엔진] 배기규제대응을 위한 이중벽 배기관 기본 설계 연구

In this study, the double walled exhaust tube system was investigated as an effective countermeasure to reduce pollutant exhaust gas emission. especially to reduce pollutant exhaust gas emission at cold start and idling stage, in which the catalyst is not reached to light-off temperature. In this study, it has shown that the double walled exhaust pipe construction can shorten the time to reach to light off temperature of the catalyst in cool start state and reduce the emission of hydro-carbon(HC) significantly due to thermal insulation effect. In the study, 3 dimensional thermal fluid analysis in double walled exhaust system has been done through computational fluid dynamics method. The analytical results were compared with experimentals obtained from specially fabricated bench tester and it had shown excellent conformity in both results. From the present study results basic major data to construct and design the optimum double walled exhaust tube system were achieved.

A highly compact and thermally efficient water cooled oil cooler for automotive use without offset strip fin and casing is developed in this study. The study result has shown that by eliminating the fin and casing in the oil cooler the manufacturing process and cost and can be simplified and reduced greatly without sacrificing the thermal capacity. The oil cooler developed in the study uses the embossed pot type heat transfer core element design instead of offset strip fin and eliminates the outer casing for coolant water flow by applying specially made parallel loop flow design. In the study the thermal design program for the present oil cooler also was developed and validated experimentally.<br/>

It is widely recognized that exhaust emissions. fuel economy<br/> and engine torque are affected by engine temperature. and logic would suggest that a cooling system offering a better compromise of engine temperature would improve both overall engine<br/> performance and economy.<br/> Author measured coolant temperature of some parts and flow<br/> rate which are necessary to heat transfer in a engine. And<br/> Author determined parameters necessary for the optimum design of a thermostat to keep the best engine performance: determined the optimum operating temperature of electric cooling fan.<br/> A summary of this study is followed.<br/> 1. Study of the effects of cooling condition to combustion character in a engine. <br/> 2. Analyze of heat transfer surrounding engine cylinders.<br/> 3. Study of the effects of cooling character to engine heat<br/> rejection. determination of the optimum coolant temperature for keeping the optimum engine performance and determination of the optimum design of a thermostat for keeping that temperature.<br/>
