In this study, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) were isolated from rhizosphere soils of Dokdo Island. Based on their morphological characteristics and 18S rDNA sequence analysis, eight species belonging to seven genera were identified: Acaulospora longula, A. mellea, Claroideoglomus claroideum, Diversispora aurantia, Funneliformis mosseae, Gigaspora margarita, Paraglomus occultum, and Septoglomus constrictum. No differences were noted between the AMF isolated from Dongdo and Seodo in Dokdo Island, and all of these AMF have been reported previously in Korea. These results could be useful for diversity and functional analyses of AMF in Korea.
고랭이류에서 분리한 내생균의 생물다양성 및 지리적 양상

We investigated the biodiversity of endophytic fungi of Bolboschoenus planiculmis and Schoenoplectus triqueter in Korea. Twenty five of these host plants were collected from six sampling sites. Internal transcribed spacer analysis identified a total of eighty five isolates from the collected plants. The isolates comprised nineteen taxa; most of the isolates (92%) belonged to class Dothideomycetes, followed by Sordariomyetes (4.8%), Agaricomycetes (1.6%), and Eurotiomycetes (0.8%). The most prevalent fungus was Cladosporium perangustum in B. planiculmis and Macrospora scirpicola in S. triqueter. There are very few studies of endophytic fungi in halophytes and these have reported biodiversity patterns different from those of previous studies in Korea. Our results should provide useful information for future research in Korea.
충남 오서산에 분포하는 소나무와 일본잎갈나무에서 분리한 내생균의 다양성

Diversity of endophytic fungi of two species associated with host plants, Pinus densiflora and Larix Kaempferi in Mt. Oser were investigated. Endophytic fungi were isolated from surface sterilized leaves of the 13 host plants and identified by morphological traits and rDNA ITS sequences analysis. Totally 37 isolates were discovered and identified into 17 taxa. Of them, 59% isolates belonged to Leotiomycetes, 30% isolates Sordariomyetes, 8% isolates Dothideomycetes and 3% isolates Agaricomycetes. Results showed a similar diversity pattern with previous studies. Also, species diversity (H``) of endophytic fungi isolated from L. kaempferi was higher than that from P. densiflora. The endophytic species composition showed significant differences between host plants. Particularly, taxon of Lophodermium is a major genus in the host plants. However, critical research of the endophytic species diversities within the genus in Korea is required. The communities of endophytic fungi isolated in this study showed differences in diversities and species composition between host plants.

We examined endophytic fungi from the needle leaves of three species of conifers in Korea: Abies nephrolepis, Thuja koraiensis, Pinus koraiensis. Endophytic fungi were isolated from the surface-sterilized leaves and identified based on morphological characteristics and Internal transcribed spacer sequences of rDNA. Three species of endophytic fungi isolated in this study were the first reported in Korea: Cryptosporiopsis actinidiae, Pestalotiopsis mangiferae, Pyrenochaeta cava.

In this study, endophytic fungi were isolated from leaves of four species of woody plants, Acer tagmentosum, Larix kaempferi, Abies holophylla, and Pinus koraiensis, on Mt. Hambaek, Gangwondo, Korea. The endophytic fungi were identified using morphological and sequences analysis of ITS regions. The fungal endophytes were identified as Talaromyces radicus, Myceliophthora verrucosa, Cryptosporiopsis diversispora, and Sphaerulina berberidis, which are the first record in Korea. The morphological and molecular phylogenetic characteristics of each strain were described.
눈측백(Thuja koraiensis Nakai)에서 분리한 내생균의 다양성

The biodiversity of endophytic fungi on Thuja koraiensis in Mt. Hwaak, Seorak, and Hambaek, Korea was investigated. For the 202 isolates collected from the host trees, internal transcribed spacer rDNA region sequences-based analysis identified 32 taxa; 61.5% of the isolates belonged to Dothideomycetes, 27.0% belonged to Sordariomycetes, and 11.5% belonged to Leotiomycetes. This composition rate is somewhat different from that reported in previous studies for endophytic fungi inhabiting trees of the family Pinaceae. In particular, Phyllosticta spinarum in Dothideomycetes is a dominant species among the diverse endophytes of T. koraiensis. Therefore, further critical research is required for this species.

Leaves of Lindera obtusiloba were collected from four sites in Gangwon Province, Korea. Endophytic fungi were isolated from the leaves and identified using ITS sequences of rDNA. Total twelve species belonging of endophytic fungi were identified; Alternaria alternata, Annulohypoxylon annulatum, Creosphaeria sassafras, Diaporthe eres, Discosia sp., Epicoccum nigrum, Glomerella acutata, Glomerella cingulata, Paraconiothyrium brasiliense, Pestalotiopsis neglecta, Phomopsis amygdali, Xylaria sp. The endophytic fungus, Phomopsis amygdali, was the most dominant species isolated from L. obtusiloba in this study and the fungal diversities varied in the different sites.

This study was conducted to reveal the diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in Mt. Munan, based on the morphological and molecular characters. Soil and root samples were collected from the rhizosphere of host plants including Lindera obtusiloba, Stephanandra incisa, Styrax obassis and Symplocos sawafutagi and AMF were trap-cultured with Sorghum bicolor as a host plant in a greenhouse. The spores were extracted from the cultured soils and five species were identified using morphological and molecular characteristics; Acaulospora longula, A. mellea, Ambispora leptoticha, Gigaspora margarita and Paraglomus occultum. The distribution of AMF showed different trends according to host plants. The dominant AMF species were A. longula in L. obtusiloba, A. leptoticha in S. incisa, S. obassis and S. sawafutagi.

Endophytic fungi were isolated from needle leaves of Pinus thunbergii distributed in Boryeong of Korea. Total 7 species of fungi were identified using partial sequences of ITS and LSU regions of nuclear DNA Anthostomella sepelibilis, Beltrania sp., Cladosporium sp., Coniochaeta velutina, Entonaema pallida, Lophodermium sp. and Nigrospora sphaerica sphaerica. The endophytic fungi, Beltrania sp. was the most dominant species isolated from P. thunbergii in this study. Results indicate that the distribution of endophytic fungi in the leaves of P. thunbergii could be influenced by environments of the fungal habitat.
금산의 인삼 재배 토양에 분포하는 수지상균근균의 다양성

In this study, soil samples were collected from cultivated fields of 1-5 year old Korean ginseng in Geumsan, Korea. Spores of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi were extracted from soils and identified using morphological characteristics and 18s rDNA sequences of the spores. Total 10 species of AMF were identified: Acau-lospora longula, Archaeospora trappei, Glomus caledonium, Glomus etunicatum, Glomus intraradices, Glomus mosseae, Glomus sp., Paraglomus occultum, Paraglomus brasilianum, and Scutellospora heterogama. Relative abundance of spores of A, Trappei Were increased with increase of cultivation period of the ginseng. However, relative abundance of other species of AMF and Shannon diversity (H`) of AMF were significantly decreased with the increase of cultivation periods of the ginseng.
