본 연구에서는 일본의 히키고모리를 경험한 청년을 대상으로 히키고모리 체험을 통해 구성해 낸 경험 현상을 탐색하고자 한다. 본 연구의 자료는 일본 관서지방 W시 E히키고모리재활자립지원센터의 히키고모리 경험 당사자 6명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 통해 수집되었다. 본 연구 참여자는 장기간의 히키고모리 상태에서 회복되었거나 회복중인 대상으로 남성이며 21세~ 38세의 연령으로 나타났다. 자료 수집은 2016년 2월 ~ 3월 사이에 이루어졌으며, 자료 분석은 Colaizzi(1978)의 현상학적 분석방법을 이용하였다. 연구결과 총 127개의 의미를 기반으로 하여 경험의 본질적 구조인 15개의 주제와 6개의 주제모음을 도출하였다. 6개의 주제모음은 ‘불안과 무력감,’ 세상에 대한 두려움,’ ‘죽음에 대한 양가성,’ ‘삶 속에서 관계의 단절,’ ‘자기(self)의 해리,’ ‘나와 관계를 이어주는 정서적 지지’ 등이었다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 일본 청년들에게 있어서 히키고모리의 경험에 대한 논의를 통해 후속 연구에 대한 제언 및 상담 현장에서의 함의를 논하였다. Objective: This study explores the experiences of hikikomori youth in Japan. One of the most talked-about social issues in Japan in recent years has been the problem of the nation’s purportedly one million ‘hidden’ or socially withdrawn youths, known as hikikomori. Method: A total of 6 hikikomori men living in Japan were selected for in-depth interview. This study utilizes Colaizzi’s phenomenological method, with data analysis based on the 6 steps presented by Colaizzi (1978). Results: Results of this study are as follows: the participants provided 13 themes on the essential structure of experience and 6 theme clusters. The final 6 theme clusters that were: anxiety and helplessness, fear of the world, ambivalence of death, cut-off of relationships in life, dissociation of self, emotional support to connect the relationships and self. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, discussions about the experiences of young Japanese hikikomori are offered, and implications for subsequent studies and consultation are presented.
