This study was carried out to reduce fruits with uneven-coloration, which is a main attribute to low quality fruits in sweet pepper. To improve fruit coloration, 1, 2, or 4 mM KCl or 2 mM K₂SO₄ were supplied to the nutrient solution, and plant growth and fruit quality were compared with those in the control, the Grodan standard nutrient solution treatment. Levels of N, Ca, and Mg in leaves decreased, while K and Cl increased, as compared to those of the control. With the promoted uptake of K and Cl as well as the suppressed uptake of N by the KCl or K₂SO₄ supplement to the solution, fruit content of capsanthin and hunter value of fruit color increased, while chlorophyll content decreased, as compared to the control. As a result, percentage of unevenly colored fruits, decreased by nearly 6%. Although plant growth was slightly suppressed, yield was not affected by these treatments.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of the drain ratio during fruiting period on the growth and yield of sweet pepper (Capsicum annum ‘'Jubilee’') in rockwool culture. The drain ratios during fruiting period were managed at 15, 25, and 35% or altered from 15 to 25% in March. As drain ratio during fruiting period decreased, EC in the root zone and water content increased. Contents of Ca and Mg in leaves in the small drain ratio treatments were low, while contents of N and K were high. Plant height and number of branches per plant were greater in the big drain ratio treatment. Fruit weight and marketable fruits increased by the big drain ratio treatment. The marketable yield and total yield was greatest in the drain atio altered treatment. The unmarketable yield due to blossom end rot and small size was greatest in the mallest drain ratio treatment. The small drain ratio treatment increased the early yield, while big drain ratio reatment increased the middle and late yield.

The effect of 1st irrigation time after sunrise, set at 30 to 120 minutes after sunrise at 30 minutes interval, on fruit cracking was investigated. As the 1st irrigation was delayed, root zone EC increased, while the water content decreased, with a greater daily fluctuation of EC and medium water content. Because of this unstable situation in the root zone as affected by late 1st irrigation, plant growth was suppressed, fruit size decreased and the blossom end rot increased, while fruit cracking decreased. Both fruit cracking and blossom end rot were more increased in late period, from March, than those of early and mid period The incidence of fruit cracking remarkably increased in the 30 and 60 minute treatments and decreased in the 90 and 120 minute treatments. The number of cracked fruits in the 90 minute treatment decreased by 2 fruits per plant as compared to that in 60 minute treatment. The number of fruits with blossom end rot also decreased by 4 fruits per plant as compared to the 120 minute treatment, where the yield was the greatest.
