The steering system is composed of handle, steering column, intermediate shaft, pinion, rack, tie-rod, knuckle and tire. Although steering reaction force and torque can be experimentally measured, measurements require a lot of time and money. Steering reaction force and torque can also be obtained via computer simulation. In this paper, computer simulation of steering system is applied to design the intermediate shaft in steering linkage. Reaction force and torque on the steering system are investigated as a function of twisted angle of universal joints located at both ends of the intermediate shaft.
