Several computer-based working memory training programs have been developed to improve working memory abilities for children. However, those existing training programs were designed without consideration of domain-specificity of working memory. In this study, we sought to develop a new working memory training program with consideration of working memory domains according to the functional dimension and the modality of information. In addition, the level of difficulty for each training session was adaptively adjusted to ensure that participants conduct their best on every training task. With this newly developed program, a pilot study was conducted for school-age children to explore applicability and effectiveness of the training program. The result showed that our training program was properly designed to train various working memory functions and modalities and that the level of difficulty was suitable for school-age children. Importantly, performances on the tasks with similar dimensions were increasingly improved as training sessions progressed. These results suggest that, as a practical application, our working memory training program could be used for children to improve their working memory abilities.
