This paper shows an optimal design methodology for a fluid engine mount by the Pareto artificial life algorithm for solving multi-objective optimization problems. The design has been commonly modified by trial and error or optimized by an optimization method which can handle a single objective function. The optimal design of a fluid engine mount commonly requires reducing the transmissibility at two frequencies which are the desired resonant frequency and the notch frequency. But the single solution is an element of the Pareto optimal solution set. This paper provides a decision maker or a designer with the Pareto front and the optimal solution set for a fluid engine mount. Furthermore, the relation between the Pareto optimal solution set and the solution of the linearly combined single-objective optimization problem for the fluid mount has been studied.

One of the major excitation sources is an engine. The mounts supporting an engine are important isolating mechanism. The first step of design of engine mount system is to determine the location and orientation of the mounts. This paper presents the optimized location and orientationg of mounts system to minimize the transmitted force/mount from an engine to car frame.
