Researches to utilize low quality fossil fuel such as fuel with high sulfur and chlorine content have been pursued worldwide. One of the main issues in using low quality fuel is the wastage of the heat transfer surface inside the furnace due to fireside corrosion. And combustion modifications to reduce NOx emissions have increased the likelihood of fireside corrosion in pulverized coal-fired boilers. The increased fireside corrosion potential from low NOx combustion system may become worse with increasing usage of low quality fuel. As a part of these efforts, KEPRI is conducting development of advanced fireside corrosion model for pulverized coal-fired facility. This paper will discuss the fireside corrosion model.
