스몰노예 문화(7/8~11세기)는 러시아 연해주의 중부 및 남동부지역에 분포한다. 주거유적들은 저습지와 간혹 나지막한 구릉지들, 큰 강의 강안들에 위치한다. 이 문화의 주요 표지유물은 물레 성형을 하여 만든 그리고 작은 장방형의 압인무늬들(격자 표면)로 뒤덮인 토기이다. 수제토기도 있는데 두 그룹으로 구분된다. 한 그룹은 호, 굽이 있는 공기 및 완으로서 문양이 전혀 없다. 다른 그룹은 호와 화병형 토기로 대표된다. 이 그룹토기는 문양을 가지며 형태가 올가(뽈쩨) 문화의 용기들과 비슷하다. 스몰노예 문화의 구성원에 끄로우노브까 문화와 올가 문화의 주민들이 포함되었다고 확신할 수 있다. 스몰노예 문화의 주민들은 고아시아족에 속하였다. 그들은 현대 니브흐 인들의 조상이었던 것으로 추정된다. Smolnoe culture (VII-VIII – XI A.D.) occupies the Central and South-Eastern regions of the Primorsky territory of Russia. Settlements are located in the flood plains, sometimes on small hills, valleys of large rivers. The main indicator of the culture is ceramic, made with a circle and covered with small rectangular indentations (wafer surface). There is also hand-made ceramics, which is divided into two groups. One group is represented by pots, cups and bowls on pallets and has no ornament. This crockery close products Krounovka culture. Another group is represented by pots and vases. It has a variety of ornaments and moulds similar to the vessels of the Olga (Poltse) culture. It can be argued that the composition of the Smolnoe culture includes representatives of the Krounovka and Olga cultures. The population Smolnoe culture belonged to the paleo-Asiatic peoples. It can be assumed that they were the ancestors of the modern Nivkhs.
