This study was designed to investigate the influence of the relationships between husbands and their mothers-in-law on their marital satisfaction, and the mediating effects of wives`` communication styles perceived by husbands. The subjects were 261 married males in their 30s∼50s, and the following three scales were administered: a scale on the conflicts between married men and their mothers-in-law, a communication style scale, and a marital satisfaction scale. The data were analyzed for stepwise hierarchical regression, Baron & Kenny (1986)``s test, and the Sobel test (1982). The results were as follows. First, husbands`` marital satisfaction was negatively related with conflict with their mothers-in-law, and their wives`` super-reasonable style, blaming style, and irrelevant style of communication; however, it waspositively related with their wives’ functional(congruent) communication style and placating communication style. Second, functional (congruent) communication style and all the dysfunctional styles of communication, except for irrelevant style, had a significant influence on husbands`` marital satisfaction. Third, dysfunctional/functional styles of communication had partial mediating effects on the influence of the relationships between husbands and their mothers-in-law on the husbands’ marital satisfaction. The limitations of the study and implications for further research were discussed based on the results.

보호관찰 청소년의 상담수강명령 전후의 현상학적 경험연구: 가족·친구·학교를 중심으로

본 연구는 보호관찰 처분 중 상담수강명령 종결 이후 재범하지 않고 가족, 친구, 학교 관계에서 긍정적으로 적응하며 생활하고 있는 청소년들의 상담수강명령 전․중․후의 경험에 대한 청소년 자신의 해석과 경험의 의미를 본질적으로 이해하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 10대 청소년 5명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 실시하고 그 결과를 현상학적 분석 방법으로 이들의 가족, 친구, 학교 공간에서의 경험을 상담수강명령에 참여하기 전․중․후라는 시간적 범주에서 분석하였다. 그 결과, 가족에 대한 경험의 주제(하위주제)는 ‘복수의 대상 그리고 나 홀로 집에’(“짐승 같은 놈”외 4개)(상담 전) -> ‘소용돌이치는 대상’(“견디시는 엄마” 외 4개)(상담 중) ->‘그래도 내 새끼’(“괜찮다 다시 하면 된다.” 외 4개)(상담 후)로, 친구에 대한 경험의 주제(하위주제)는‘싸움을 통한 존재감 확인(“무서운 존재, 그림자”외 4개)(상담 전) ->‘두려운 존재’(“소문나면 솔직히 쪽 팔리잖아요”외 4개)(상담 중) ->‘너도 괜찮네’(“내가 시비를 안거니까”외 4개)(상담 후)로, 학교에 대한 경험의 주제(하위주제)는‘찍힌 일상’(“뭐 될래” 외 4개)(상담 전) ->‘그림자 그리고 무조건’(“담임 빼고 전부다 개 무시”, 외 4개) (상담 중) ->‘부모님을 봐서라도’(“엄마한테 잘해야지”외 4개)(상담 후)로 상담을 통하여 가족, 친구, 학교에서의 경험들의 긍정적인 변화가 관찰되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 청소년 범죄의 예방 및 효과적인 개입 방안에 대하여 논의 하였다. The purpose of this study is to understand in-depth meanings of juvenile delinquents’ own experiences before, during, and after court-ordered counseling during probation. In-depth interviews concerning family, friends, and school relationships were conducted and recorded with five teenagers who were enforced to counselling by courts, but pretty well adapting after the counseling with no recidivism. Interview data were analyzed with analytical phenomenological method. The results showed positive changes in experiences of the participants in relationships with family, friends, and schools. The themes in relations with family, friends, and schools changed in positive direction : ‘an uncomfortable opponent’(before counseling) -> ‘swirling object’(during counseling) -> ‘but it’s my son’(after counseling), ‘fighting makes alive’(before counseling) -> ‘a fearful guy’(during counseling) -> ‘You’re good too’(after counseling), and ‘stigmatized daily lives’ (before counseling) -> ‘being in shadow and with no condition’(during counseling) -> ‘for the sake of parents’(after counseling) respectively. The ways to prevent juvenile crimes and for effective intervention were discussed with suggestions for further research.
