Energy release rate of the adhesive joint is commonly evaluated by the several beam theory based fracture mechanics characterization tests with respect to the several loading modes. End notch flexure (ENF) test is the representative fracture tests for tangential (mode II) behavior, which are originally designed for the evaluation of the interlaminar fracture of composite materials. The interlaminar fracture of composite material is only the failure behavior of the single composite body whereas the adhesive joint is a debonding behavior between heterogeneous materials because it contains the adherends. In this study, the effect of the different characteristics between the adherends and adhesive on the evaluation result of energy release rate was successfully revealed by the numerical simulation.
