예비영어교사와 중등학교 학생의 멘토링 활동에 대한 연구

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mentoring activities that were performed in secondary schools in a metropolitan city of Korea. 6 prospective English teachers as mentors and 6 secondary school students as their mentees who had worked in the mentoring activities participated in the study. The mentors were interviewed by the focus group interview technique and the mentees, by individual telephone calls. The findings of the study are as follows: The mentors perceived that the mentoring activities provided them with an opportunity to see teaching profession is right for them. They also responded that the mentoring activities were useful for them to improve their teaching skills, understand the reality of secondary school English classrooms, and appreciate in-service English teachers’ professional skills. The mentees also viewed the mentoring activities positively. Most of the mentees perceived the mentoring activities helpedthem improve their English test scores and build their self-confidence in their English learning ability. Based on these findings, some suggestions for successful implementation of the mentoring activities are provided along with the limitations of the study.
