As many other countries are focusing on applying their own native plants on various industrial fields, demands for the cosmetic application of our native plants have also increased in Korea. In this study, 8 kinds of oriental herbs (Glycyrrhiza glabra, Angelica tenuissima, Angelica gigas, Artemisia capillaris, Pinus densiflora leaf, Mentha arvensis, Angelica dahurica, Cnidium officinale) grown our native country were extracted by hot water and herbal mixed extract powder tested for potential use as a functional cosmetic ingredient by evaluating the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. As a result, it was confirmed that 8 kinds of herbal mixed extract powder improved the activation of superoxide dismutase (SOD), an anti-oxidation enzyme and inhibited the protein expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an anti-inflammation marker. Based on these results, 8 kinds of herbal mixed extract powder are considered to be functional cosmetic material in anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation potency when effective formulation.
에델바이스캘러스배양추출물의 항노화 관련 효능에 관한 연구

Edelweiss, which belongs to the Asteraceae family, has long been used in a variety of medicinal remedies against abdominal, respiratory, inflammation and fever diseases. It is well-known Switzerland national flower and be protected species in many countries. In order to preserve and utilize endangered edelweiss, its callus was derived from seeds using plant tissue culture technology. Edelweiss callus extract (Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract; LACCE) was evaluated for its anti-aging effect in the skin cells. The cytotoxicity of the LACCE was examined on HaCaT and Ditroit 551 cells with MTT assay. Anti-oxidant activity of LACCE was verified by In vitro test. The expression levels of MMP-2 and AQP-3 were analyzed on Detroit 551 and HaCaT cells by Real-time PCR to examine wrinkle effect and moisturizing effect. LACCE treated HaCaT cell shows increasing of AQP-3 mRNA levels and decreasing of MMP-2 mRNA levels. The anti-inflammatory effect of LACCE was estimated by the mRNA levels of COX-2 and iNOS in UVB treated HaCaT cells. COX-2 and iNOS mRNA levels were reduced in LACCE treated HaCaT cells. These results showed LACCE can be used in the promising anti-aging cosmetic active ingredients.

In spatial database systems, various kinds of queries exist. A frequent type of queries in spatial database systems is the query to find nearest neighbors. Many studies have been performed on processing such queries, and one representative work, which uses index structure of R-tree family, is 「Nearest Neighbor Queries」 by Roussopoulos. However, the algorithm proposed by Roussopoulos has suffered perfomance decrease during searching, since his algorithm does not utilize all the information on the nodes already visited. In this paper, in order to resolve this problem, we present an improved algorithm to find nearest neighbors using a global priority queue. Finally, by experimenting these algorithms on various test data, we show that the performance of our improved algorithm is superior to the Roussopoulos's algorithm.
