Wind power energy is one of the attractive renewable energies. Comparing to on-shore wind turbine, the off-shore wind turbine has advantages such as higher energy density and fewer constraint conditions. However, due to a high initial investment, the unit cost of power production should be reduced by using a large-scaled wind turbine with capacity of more than 5㎿. The geared-type wind turbine needs a relative high maintenance cost of power train system, so that the industries begin to pay attention to the large-scaled gearless-type wind turbine. In this paper, a case study to design the rotor of the AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet)-type generator applied to the gearless type wind turbine was performed. Under a design constraint of deformation, i.e. smaller than 3㎜ at the end of rotor, the design parameters such as thickness of spider and width of rib in the rotor were determined, in which the total weight of the rotor was below down 19tonf.
