This paper is a study on the performance analysis of a swing compressor of which a roller and a vane consist of one body. Mechanical losses are derived from dynamic analysis to predict the performance of the swing compressor. Performance results of the swing compressor is compared with those of a rotary compressor. In case of mass flow rate, the swing compressor is about 6.68% higher than the rotary compressor, and in case of EER, the swing compressor is about 3.71% higher than the rotary compressor.

Functional formula of the flow coefficients for the radial clearance in a rolling piston rotary compressor was developed by the experiments and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to improve the accuracy of a compressor performance simulation. The experiments and CFD simulation were conducted to obtain the flow coefficients at the radial clearance with the assumptions of incompressible flow and steady state. The experiments were carried out with the variation of pressure ratio and low upstream pressure using the nitrogen as a working fluid. The validated CFD model was adopted to calculate the flow coefficients with change area of the radial clearance and high upstream pressure. The functional formula obtained from the results of the CFD calculation was applied to compressor performance simulation for calculating the leakage through the radial clearance. The results of compressor simulation with the functional formula showed tolerable errors with the experimental data of the compressor calorimeter in terms of EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio). Thus, the function of the flow coefficients may be acceptable for prediction of leakage through the radial clearance under the various conditions.

Numerical performance analysis of the vane-roller integral type swing compressor was conducted. The swing compressor has been investigated for the highly efficient air conditioning system. Performance analysis results of the swing compressor were compared with those of a conventional rotary compressor. Mechanical and gas losses of a swing compressor were larger than those of a rotary compressor. However in case of mass flow rate from the discharge port, the swing compressor was about 6.68% higher than the rotary compressor. Hence the EER, the cooling capacity and the compressor work of the swing compressor were about 3.71%, 6.69% and 2.90% higher than the rotary compressor respectively.

Refrigerant flow through a Y-shape suction port in a twin rotary compressor is analyzed by CFD simulation. A Y-shape suction port is installed at a partition plate between an upper cylinder and a lower cylinder for simple structure and efficient supply of the refrigerant into two cylinders. The transient simulation is conducted to analyze flow characteristics at a Y-shape suction port by using Ansys 14.0. To find optimal design of a Y-shape suction port, the influence of port diameter, branch angle. The effects of these factors for the suction gas flow are evaluated by comparison of mass flow rate flowing into individual cylinders.
