The steady state in-cylinder flow analysis of lean-burn engine with swirl control valve(SCV) is performed. The 3D CAD(CATIA) surface data of a developing engine is used in a computational fluid dynamics analysis, which could give design guidelines for geometries of intaKe port and SCV. The results of computational analysis shows that the CFD code could be used in a quantative and/or qualitative availability study of intaKe system.<br/>

Some considerations of Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) technology were studied for calculating of steady and unsteady in-cylinder flow fields. And the changes of flow field according to variations of configuration of intake port generating reverse tumble and curved piston to control purposed bulk flow were calculated. Also, CFD results were compared to experimental results using LDV, PIV and good validations were met. As a result, reverse tumble flow generated during intake process was preserved by configuration of curved piston while base and reverse tumbles were diminished at the end of compression stroke in case of flat top piston. In addition, it will be needed to optimize the fuel mixture distribution based on these results.<br/>

A modeling technique is proposed for dynamic simulations of OHC valve trains with HLA(hydraulic lash adjuster). HLA is expressed by an air-oil mixture model considering HLA leak-down and aeration effects. A compact nonlinear equation is derived which describe the short tenn dynamic behavior of the HLA. Valve spring is analyzed by a distributed parameter model including nonlinear characteristics in the spring surge phenomena. Global behavior of the valve train except the valve spring is expressed by a lumped mass model. The experimental results prove that the simulation model developed here is accurate and useful for dynamic simulations of OHC valve trains with HLA.<br/> <br/>
