Currently automobile CAN network gains it popularity from its effectiveness by reducing wiring harness and thus simplifying the automobile network. The majority spaces of the wiring harness in the previous automobile network is from the power connecting cables that connect every controller modules and electrical loads to the battery. This paper presents a power distribution system that connects all the modules and loads with a single power cable and thus effectively reduces the wiring harness. This paper first analyzes the requirements for the controller module for power distribution system in automobile CAN network and shows results of real implementation of the hardware which is applied to a real automobile system of Hyundai Motor Company.

In this paper, electrical load grouping in automobile Controller Area Network (CAN) is considered. Recent works on CAN applications in automobile network show the advantage of reduction of wire size, wire length, simplified network structure and the flexibility. The grouping of electrical loads should be considered prior to actual hardware implementation of the CAN network to maximize the effectiveness of the network. This paper suggests the design flow of electrical load grouping in the over CAN network design. And the actual implementation of the CAN network with the design flow suggested in the paper is presented as result of joint project of Seoul National University and Hyundai Motor Company.

These days, customer's demand for convenient, comfort, performance and safety is increasing continuously. To satisfy these needs, many electric items such as MDPS, EPB, Heated Windshield Glass, etc have been developed and installed in the luxury vehicle and these electric systems need more power in current 14V system. However, a 14V System almost reaches its limit because of 12V battery's capacity, wire weight increase, etc. To overcome this limitation of 14V system, 42V Systems are introduced to the car industry. A transition from 14V systems to 42V systems will take lots of times because many 12V electric items are used in the car. So a bidirectional power transformer between 14V and 42V needs. This paper represents how a bi-directional DC/DC converter for 42V system vehicle is designed.

In this paper, the cooling system for the belt driven 42V vehicle presented to accommodate 42V system in the vehicle. 42V system is consist of 3 major parts, DC/DC Converter, MCU and IGS. DC/DC converter changes 42V to 14V in the vehicle and MCU controls IGS for the idle stop and start function to improve fuel economy. 42V system, DC/DC Converter and MCU are designed to be one module in an engine room to operate IGS. And IGS works automatic engine stop and start function with 36V Battery. Heat reduction is required in the DC/DC converter and MCU either. The water-cooling system is suggested with 2 types sample. And the properly designed specification was suggested with a bench-marking of another products.<br/>

In this paper, the structure of an algorithm of a network node for a CAN (Controller Area Network)-based wiring system is studied. The algorithms with polling or interrupt driven handling are compared. A common structure of algorithm for the network nodes software is proposed. A CAN-based wiring system for a Hyundai motor company's passenger car XG has been developed using the proposed method. The experimental results show the feasibility of the implementation of the method.

This paper analyzes an automotive ground structure and presents an automotive ground model to estimate a ground voltage and its variation. As more electrical equipment is installed in an automobile, its ground voltage becomes more important since its performance is dependent on it. Accordingly, it is essential to estimate a ground voltage and its variation in its design stage to guarantee a stable operation of the equipment. In this paper, an automotive ground model is developed, which can be used for simulating a steady state ground voltage. By dividing an automotive ground structure into an engine room ground and a body ground, they are modeled as equivalent resistive networks. A ground voltage is simulated using the developed model and is compared with measured voltage from an actual car. Comparison of these two results shows good agreement and the reliability of the model is confirmed.
